The Bush

Wee Willy Wagtail – a moment of sudden clarity

You recall how there has been a little tragedy surrounding the Granite Glen Willy Wagtail nest?

Even after I did my very best Mother Nature impersonation to save the nest from certain destruction? After I had carefully documented the three little nude birdies

Well, here is the sole remaining chick…making an extremely rare appearance just for your viewing pleasure…

So here it is…Ta Da!
What? You can’t see it?
Come on… try a little harder!
Work with me people!
What? You wanna see more?
Sheesh…
Come on little fella…
The people want more.

It’s a pretty big effort to sit up for the camera when you are only a week old

Mmmmph…. that ’nuff?

Geez woman… I can’t hold it any longer
You want more, you gotta get a better angle!

*lots of shuffling to move step ladder a bit closer. BB clambers up.*
Right woman, you ready?
All focussed?
OK… here goes
Errrgghhh…

Arrghhh…
Umpphhh!

And now for the grand finale..
Eyes are open!

Thank you, thank you!
Autographs later please…

when i was a kid some barn swallows made a nest in a friend’s garage. we’d check on the status of the chicks by clapping our hands. they’d always pop up with their mouths wide open for food.

my friend’s parents were much relieved when they could finally lock the garage door after the babies had fledged.

DW… mmmmm. I will kinda miss these guys when they vamoose I think. I won’t miss the little artistic comments on the concrete beneath the nest, but I will miss the inhabitants!

HI BB, how gorgeous. We have a nest in the machinery shed and every year the same two come back to repair the nest, lay eggs and hatch babies. They always give me a sense that life goes on. Enjoying the blog!

I wasn’t going to comment – but with verification of “farde” I had to say something, didn’t I?

Poor mum here is trying to connect it to Willy Wagtails, so I am going to have to go and explain there is no connection or logic to the beauty that is word verification play.

Here is to you always being the “sensible” sister, dear – about to tuck in mum and farde and talk tomorrow…

They grow so fast! I love that the entire nest it now wrapped in tape. It’ aint going nowhere 🙂 Very talented bird by the way, i’m very excited for it’s next performance!

OMG, I love baby birds. They look like little old men.

I always had rescue birds in my bedroom when I was a kid. I’d gather worms and chop them up to feed them before releasing back to the garden. Once I made the mistake of substituting ham. Don’t feed baby birds ham. That’s all I’m saying. After that, it was back to worms.

Great photos! I love that the next is held together with tape!

The birds probably will come back every year. This baby bird and the husband bird will tell the story to future generations about how Mama bird made such an inferior nest that the nice laundry lady had to tape it to the pipe. Every time the story is told the nest will be more wobbly and the quantity of tape needed will double. The Mama bird will just laugh with the rest of them, knowing that it was Papa birds fault the next wobbled. That would be if bird families work the same way as humans.

Are you celebrating Halloween down there?

  • Bush Babe

Heh… Portia – I will not be able to look at these air without imaginaing the interchange just as described!!

Yes, Halloween is just starting to make its somewhat bizarre presence felt in these parts. Bizarre because we have no real history of it and I’m sure the oldies think the world has gone completely mad when they see kids dressed a ghouls and knocking on door!!

D’ya think the feathers improve the look?? He’s still pretty ordinary (cutem but ugly!).

    🙂
