Little pecks of powder…

My daughter is a contrast of traits, a kaleidescope of girly girl and rough-and-tumble and feisty and sweet..
For instance, she adores makeup.
Which is a bit strange, because I wear minimal colour on my face.
And yet, she is obsessed by the little palettes of aqua and lavendar and hot pink powders which people so love to give kids as gifts these days.
(That sweeping statement includes me by the way – if I have to endure miniature make-up artists, so do all my friends!).
My Dad quotes a quaint ditty which goes something like this:
Little pecks of powder
And little pots of paint
Make a gal’s complexion
Seem just what it ain’t!

I was a tomboy, all obsessive over horses and being Dad’s right hand man when I was little. So while it bemuses me a little, I admit that deep down, I kinda enjoy that my daughter likes girly stuff.
It’s reassuring somehow.

She is totally her own little person.

But it’s always important to keep in mind that Violet has an older brother.
A sweet, mostly-gentle, loving older brother…

An older brother who’s not that much into makeup.
Or Barbies.
You want to know what he IS into?
Really, really into?

I think I should take some make-up lessons from Violet, LOL! She has some great sparkle on! 😉
I love your dad’s little ditty quote. So true. But I hate to say it, I’d be lost without my face powder, lipgloss, and mascara!

Too funny. I have a little girly girl too, who has that same mixture of tomboyishness. They are a joy & a delight, no?

And Dash. I have one of my own there too. Gotta love the differences. They do keep us on our toes!

That boy has a future in the movies, methinks! He sure can twirl the eyeshadow stick.

My word verification – ph the wiz.

    Exactly.

BB – it strikes me again, almost like a shock – Violet’s little face is losing it’s baby contours. That first picture gives us a hint…she will be a beautiful woman. But no matter how big Dash grows, I expect that he will always have a touch of boyishness about him. Why is that, do you think?

Somfing ‘appened t’ my comment . . . w’orling about som’eres in bloghsphere, no doubt. So I tries it ag’in.

Precious moments there with those darling, precious kiddos of yours. I know you enjoy them immensely, as you should! Keep ’em close while you can, cause they grow up too fast. But then, in some future time, you’ll hopefully have grandchildren to enjoy just as much or more!

she is beautiful! i love the jewel thingers on her eyes so cute. I grew up with three brothers so i was never into the whole makeup thing. Still not. I wonder what i’ll do if it have a little girl who loves makeup! Hopefully she will have a brother who will help her with it like that last pic. Priceless!
