The Bush

Grass fire (from the car window)

Driving down the road to home this week, I could’ve been forgiven for thinking the grass out the front of our house paddock was on fire.
It was all red-tipped and rippling and alight.
So I took a photo.
Or two.

(Are you shocked? No? You are in the right place then!)

The late afternoon light was low enough to
really catch the flowering tips of the Red Natal grass…
Lighting it up all fiery red

With flashes of white-hot

That Mother Nature … she loves messin’ with mah head!

🙂

PS News from southern Australia (in real bushfire country) is that the threat is easing.

Fingers crossed!

PPS Thanks for the messages yesterday – my husband is still reeling from embarrassment at all your ‘movie star’ comments! Of course I know how handsome he is, but he thinks I am just biased. Heh.

I love the grass……….I have several different kinds planted around my gardens in various colors but no reds as stunning as yours.
Will keep our fingers crossed that the fire threat continues to diminish.

Those pix are stunning! My goodness you have some beautiful wild grasses.

Glad to hear that the bush fire threat is easing.

You know, when I was in Allentown, I kept forgetting to bring my camera along. I was ashamed of myself, but I simply never remembered it. To you, it is second nature…you never go anywhere without it. I think that’s what makes you a photographer, and me not. Plus your pictures are nice. Those two things.

PG – thanks. It is pretty – considered weeds in some parts but no-one seems to worry about it here. Always catches my eye late afternoon…

Deb – you plant it deliberately? Really. It just grows wild here… hmmmm.

Sue – ta. Yeah, some of the grasses are eye-catching, but most just do their thing quietly!!

SW – thanks!!! Not sure about the banner yet … lots of words. It’s growing on me. 🙂

    M Boyle – *curties* *smiles*

Debby – don’t be ashamed. My husband constantly wonders WHY I take it with me everywhere… drives him nuts. I’m not sure he’d recognise me without it stuck on the right side of my face!!!

He really does look like a movie star!

Our grass is boring here – maybe I’ll have to go out and see if we have any interesting colors later this summer.

You’re photos are inspiring me to get back to it!

Glad to hear the fire’s are calming down again. We’re starting to head into our season and I think we’ll be busy this year. It is already extremely dry and was a dry winter.

Danielle – thanks so much – love to help get others behind their camera again!!!

Amber, Blue Eyed Tango and KateF – welcome!!! And thanks so much for such sweet feedback…

Heh, the ‘grass fire’ title sucked me right in and then I saw the pics – good one, BB.

    🙂

Off to think up a story for the latest picture competition…
