THAT’s not an icicle…

Do you remember that 1980’s movie Crocodile Dundee?
When Paul Hogan was an Aussie and pre-plastic surgery?
And remember that line where Mick says:

‘THAT’s not a knife…

THIS is a knife!’

And remember how I showed you this:

This amazing testiment
to my laziness colliding spectacularly
with Mother Nature’s recent
whiplash of cold weather?

The result of heavily frosted grass…
and a stinking big circle of ice (top of image)

where I left the sprinkler going overnight!

Turning the heads of Rhodes grass

into little ice bouquets

And couch grass clumps into mini frozen sculptures?

Quite pretty I suppose…
Quite spectacular I guess…
Til someone forwards you an email
with a series of photos
(from the same district)
to really put your weedy popsicles to shame…
Now THAT is some ice, ice baby!
This little dude’s Daddy (or Grandad, I’m not sure) didn’t just
leave a household sprinkler on through the cold snap.
He left the IRRIGATION system going
to GRAND effect.
LOVE the wall of frozen water…

Now THAT’s some ice.

Talk about getting seriously one-upped.
I feel like packing up my popsicle posy pics and go home.
Anyone care to share any one-upped stories to salve my wounded (ice-pic) ego?

THAT is a serious ice wall! Holy crap. Almost makes me want to leave the water on. I'll have to wait 'til our fall now.

Well, I still think yours are pretty impressive…but I guess you did get one-upped a little bit, huh? 😉 If I wouldn't get in trouble by my hubby, I would almost consider letting our sprinklers run this coming winter just so I could get some cool pics like this! But something tells me he might not "get" it. Hmmm…maybe just one of the zones in a place where he wouldn't notice…

Awesome! Funny because I just did a post about the last scene of Croc Dundee two days ago!…as the BEST movie ending ever! lol That movie was one of my favorites as a kid. That knife thing was hilarious but I loved when he was trying to figure out the bidet! Those ice pictures are amazing. Here in Canada we call that a Silver Thaw.

HOLY MOSES! That is an ice-wall!

    I can't share any one-up stories, because I just had lunch and the afternoon with my dad, and he has more stories that Carter has Liver Pills. He has a story for everything! What a kick! He is so much fun, but I'll never out-do the guy. :}

I was very IMPRESSED with your pretty frozen posy. Mr. I managed to present it to you without breaking it!!! Also, I just realized that I NEVER thought it got cold enough in Australia for water to freeze!! So therefore you not only entertained us but you educated us with your lovely popsicle posy!!!! There you go, back on top 🙂

Lorac – temps get down to minus 5 or so overnights (lowest usually between 6.30-7.30am) but will warm up to low to mid teens during the day – Celsius of course.

Theresa – why thanks! Made me feel better to have impressed SOMEBODY! Heh.

Lydia – 'more stories than Carter has pills' – classic!

AHCM – a 'silver thaw' … gorgeous description. Sounds like a Hans Christian Andersen line!

jrosey – I like the way your mind works. Much better to be deliberate for the art of it all. Not just lazy!!

WIAW – heh – see above comment!

PG – we don't irrigate (except the vege garden!) at all here – all grazing. Have some farm within about 15 km who do – water reservoirs for such ventures are a bit scarce out here. We hope God irrigates for us!!

I love the pictures – they actually made me feel cooler here in Hotlanta. Well, maybe a little. Try to stay warm – if the ice won't melt, I'll try to send some of our mid-90's (F) temps to you!

Oh, and thanks for the movie clip, BB; that's one of my all-time favorites!

BB? When you screw up and find somebody who screws up even worse, generally speaking, that's a good thing. You just smile and step right back, let that person stand in the limelight.

THAT'S not an icicle either. I can one-up your friend for you. I lived through the Great Ice Storm of 1998. You can read my account of how our family weathered (no pun intended) 13 days without power here:

    http://anovelwoman.blogspot.com/2008/12/winter-wonderland.html

The ice was so bad, tower lines toppled all over the province and the entire city of Montreal came within a hair's breadth of being shut down. If you google it you'll see some amazing stuff. I had to use a hammer on my car as it had several inches of ice encasing it, like this photo:

Hey, we live in Canada. Don't try to out-ice us.

    😉

Pam – of COURSE you were going to one-up me on this one (ten-fold up)… I was actually waiting for your response!! You are the WINNER in the coldest story shoot out.

Debby – see how I am standing aside here… allowing Pam to take the glory? I am merely a reflector of glory glow. I am tempted to write a song about it actually. (If only I knew how?)

Nancy – I am pleased to be of assistance! Anytime!
