The Bush

Camouflage

Sometimes, you know, I feel exactly like I did three years ago.

Sure my kids are older, but really I run around and do grocery shopping and household chores pretty much the same. I cook. I take photos. I avoid cleaning. Nothing much has changed in these departments.

But one thing that has DEFINITELY changed since I swapped the Big Smoke for the Bush…

The Scenery.

And the creatures with whom I share that incredible scenery.

Like this dude…

goanna_1049

He was just moseying across the road as I hurtled towards town to pick up Violet from Kindy.

Minding his own business.

This pre-historic looking creature (a common Aussie goanna) barely blinked at me as I screeched to a stop and grabbed the Nikon.

As if people screech and document it’s life all the time.

What really hit me, as I ka-doosh-ka-doosh-ka-dooshed at him with the camera, was how amazingly s/he blended into the bitumen beneath his gnarly claws.

You know, like about a gazillion years ago Mother Nature was all:

“Now, this creature will be needing to subtly move

across surfaces like leaf-covered dirt,

and climb up speckly gum trees…

and there will be that bitumen to contend with too.

Let’s see…

Or am I the only person that imagines these kind of

one-way dialogues being uttered by a non-human presence?

Yup.

Thought so…

I’d love to blame my weirdness on the bush

but I reckon I’ve always been a bit of a space cadet!

On that note, it’s time to GOAnna.

(Oh dear…)

🙂

Ah, I know that ka-doosh-ka-doosh-ka-doosh sound all too well now too! (He handled it better than me, I have to say!)

Just awesome photos as always BB. And observation of evolution in progress. 😉

Trace – yes. Goannas are SOOOO much easier than humans…

Jeanie – you are a sicko. Anyone would think you had been in a car driven by a woman who had deliberately driven over wildlife – and perhaps been mentally scarred for life by the experience!!!

(Kate the) Country Girl – a little 'how to' coming your way shortly. Who'd have thought there was something I could teach you about photos?? Gads… I need a cup of tea and a good lie down…

Ok this is going to sound weird but i LOVE goannas! I fell in love with them in that Disney movie, Rescuers Down Under. Joanna the Goanna, the crazy egg-stealing critter. She cracked me up and i've loved them ever since 🙂

    Awesome photography too, just beautiful.

And i have convos with non-human presences all the time 🙂

    *sigh*

Apparently, there are 'goanna' people and 'non-goanna' people. I'm of the 'non' persuasion. I did not know that it was pronounced 'go anna'. My sister's name is Anna. Thank you for the lovely visuals…

Can I say what fab photos they are, BB…and they apparently taste like chicken (so hubby says)?
Was that a 'no' to the last bit?
    Sorry 😛

That is a Sand Monitor!!! I cant believe I'm excited to see a goanna!!! lol, it is just that I was watching a nature show special on these amazing creatures just last week! The scientists were attaching little cameras to these guy's backs to learn new things about their behavior. It was really awesome… here is a link to the show, would be great for kids to see…. called "Lizard Kings" by PBS's Nova.
