The Bridge re-emerges
I have (if you will pardon the pun) a FLOOD of photos shot over the past couple of days of the results of the deluge in Central Queensland.
I apologise if you are bored witless with images of muddy water. I really do. I promise to find some pretty pics amongst the debris shortly. But seeing as how what is happening right now is kinda momentous and I feel the need to document for (my own family’s) posterity, I do hope you will bear with me a little longer…
The Big Bridge – which amazingly went under water a couple of days ago – re-emerged yesterday.
The old girl looked a little the worse for wear.
Not structurally (at least not as far as we can tell), but cosmetically. She was all gussied up by Mother Nature…
All silt and tree rubble.
It was mighty slippery underfoot…
with all that superfine silt washed over every surface.
Tricky to negotiate.
You really had to concentrate to keep your feet under you…
REALLY concentrate…
Please spare a thought for the washer-lady.
One man’s topsoil is another woman’s washing nightmare.
My husband decided to single-handedly clear the bridge for traffic.
I suppose I could have helped but…
Really, I had my hands full…
Documenting his heroic efforts…
And surely, that would be the correct priority, no?
How satisfying. Nice splash…
There we go – clear!
Now if someone just had a hose to clean up that silt?
Not quite.
🙂

You definitely had your hands full – SOMEONE has to document the event for history after all.
(and I’m loving these photos).

At least she wouldn’t have had far to fall!!

Yes Violet you are getting to close to the edge. Your Auntie is right.

Your photos are great but please be on the watch for all the snakes that would have been washed down in all the water. After the 2007 floods in n.s.w we were inundated by the slimmy little things.
Leenie
Well, I’m glad SOMEBODY had their priorities straight. Get the photographic evidence of the flood of the century and the mud of many washing detergent tests to come. I’m also very glad the water has gone down a bit and that nobody went in. Not the best swimming water.

This was a very historical or is that a hysterical moment and someone had to document it 😉 Never too old to play in the mud eh Mr I ? um, what about snakes????
Mikey
I still can’t get over the amount of water at your place. That is some fierce water!

Mikey – it’s a bit different to Arizona that’s for sure!!
Theresa – snakes are around – they are chasing frogs I think!! Millions of frogs around… and mozzies!
Leenie – no plans to swim in it, even if it is nice and calm now!
Cake1234 – welcome and yes, we are keeping our eyes peeled!
Ellie K and Jeanie – she was fine – I had an eagle eye on her and the water is pretty still now.
Jayne and Amanda – funny thing is, there are LOTS of great photographers around this part of the world. Never had better documentary evidence than this neck of the woods right now!!

That is a whole lot of water you’ve got over there. Glad to hear you guys have managed to stay high and dry in your house. Hope the rains stops soon

Hi BB
Well that is a bloody mess! The “city slicker” bods would certainly not clear the bridge as your husband did. They would have just driven over the tree trunks! I think if I was watching I would be cheering the tree trunk to remove the vehicle over the side of the bridge. I dread what a stench this will cause whenever it does stop! I don’t think that there is anything like it. (Yuck Yuck!)
Great photography and well reported.
Things must SOON get back to normality???
Cheers
Colin (HB)
“BrisVegas” as you call this place!!!!

The fifth photo looks like a hairy dinosaur and I have only had one scotch!
debby
I’ll be. It does look like a hairy dinosaur. It does.
I am very glad that the water is dropping. PS, my sympathies to your washerwoman. Who ever she might be.

It’s good to see the water going down, but I have to agree on the 5th photo – could Nessie have swum there from Scotland?
Snakes and Nessie and – what the devil is a mozzie?
Kelly
Yes, seeing Violet so close to the edge did make me a little nervous, too, until I realized it’s fairly calm now. Still….
Ugh. A laundry nightmare!

Wow – unbelievable amount of water up your way! Today we’ve got 40 degrees and it’s dry as chips here!!! That’s Australia for you! Glad to hear you’ve still got your sense of humour about your situation.
