A glimpse of wild in Manhattan

This trip is starting to get ahead of my blogging slightly… somehow I am not able to pack, catch planes, ensure people are fed and in the correct place at the correct time, take photos, unpack, and blog too.  Who needs sleep anyway!

This collection of shots was taken a couple of days ago, before we left the fabulous New York.  One thing which amazed me was that amongst this most man-made of environments, that Mother Nature still had a LITTLE bit of a say.  Central Park, itself completely arranged and replanted by humans, is the place to find most animal life…

Debby has been asking if Violet got to see squirrels (we don’t see them in Queensland) – and the answer is…

YES!

A couple played hide and seek with her … (can you spot them?)

I am sure they are annoying to many to whom they are constantly cheeky, but we delighted in their antics…

And I tried to go all Kate, my favourite ‘bird in the snow’ photographer from Chronicles of a Country Girl…

I am a beginner at snow photography, but these birds were gorgeous!

These shots were actually taken as we waited for the ferry for the Statue of Liberty…

And then, our ‘Madagascar’ moments at the NY Zoo…

BASKING… a sea lion in his enclosure and the city right nearby.

What was the King Lemur’s name again from that movie?  I feel like breaking into I like to Move It, Move it when I look at this guy!

Some gorgeous tropical birds in the heated enclosures…

AND…

LOOK what we found…

HORSES!!!

This one’s name was Ernie – but he is another story, for another late night of blogging…

Hugs to everyone at home.
