Lucky me (with Julie and Ree)

Well that wasn’t very mysterious was it?

I need to improve my cloak and daggar thing a little, quite clearly…

We were indeed at the amazing Lodge at THE Ranch and REE’s place.

Don’t ask me how we managed that.  I’m not sure I really know how we wangled it.

Perhaps having a shockingly bizarre unexplainable blog name helps?  She seems to remember me from at least one if my 70 gazillion comments – amongst the thousands who make the daily pilgrimmage to thepioneerwoman dot com. Way to make a humble Aussie country gal feel special…

Actually I think her reaction upon seeing me, as I waited to greet her at the door to her own guest house, was “I can’t believe it … Bush Babe!!! … You’re so much NICER/PRETTIER/SMILIER* than I expected!’

*I am still recovering from her actually knowing who I am, and may have slightly fuzzy recollection of the exact details of this conversation.  And I am not even going to wonder WHAT she was expecting… no good can come from that! 😉

Okay – first things first – the woman is gorgeous.  In a ‘physically beautiful, genuinely nice, warm and friendly’ kinda way that you all already know from her blog.  It’s so reassuring that the person is exactly as you imagine her to be.  But more than that.  She is generous – to share part of her world with us helped provide one of the real highlights of this trip (and let’s face it, it’s been a pretty amazing trip).  We spent about 36 fabulous, relaxing, quiet, soul-soothing hours at the Lodge. Which I bizarrely already knew every inch of (through her interactive renovation which she blogged a while ago) and yet which I have photographed almost every angle of anyway!

We yapped on and on during our time together… mostly exploring the variations in our worlds, in our language and in our cameras. Her camera rocks, but mine is doing okay too. (Did I mention I upgraded the old beat-up D100 just before we left Oz? I am the proud owner of a D7000 now.  But I digress).

She also got up close and personal with that weapon of hers (now I know how my whole family feel!) with Mr Incredible(see first pic in this post) and also of me.  I am dreading checking her blog at the moment – I was very shiny.

But there was more.

Not only did Ree spare me some rare and precious time (with her book tour of Black Heels to Tractor Wheels), but also one of Ree’s friends, the divine Ms Julie – of Another Chance Ranch = made the journey to share dinner with us too.

How pretty is this woman? And why did I agree to be photographed with two of the most gorgeous woman I know?

Other fun facts from last night.

1. I cooked.

2. It was lasagne, and it was crispy.  I didn’t cook enough cheese sauce. I never do.

3. I gave them pikelets.  And plum jam. And cream.  Ree photographed them. I fear my food photography prep skills are not what they could be.

4.  No reports of food poisoning have been had as yet.

A big thanks to Julie’s McD and Cowboy Josh for entertaining Mr I so well – he loved talking cattle with y’all for about 4 hours!!

(That’s Josh in the background, for Kate of Utah!)

Hugs to all at the Drummond Ranch (and sorry we missed you MM!).

🙂

PS Thanks for putting up with this very self-indulgent post.  I will need it to remind myself that the night happened at all!  Of course I have more photos and many more stories to tell from our time at the Ranch, but we have just driven the almost 10 hours from Tulsa to Houston and I am sneaking in this post before I become comatose.  If course I had to share this concrete evidence for my loved ones, and those of you stalking me today for an update!

Yay! I’m glad you got to visit Ree and Julie! (Now, did you not know that I am just two hours north? But I will forgive you;o)) You *all* look gorgeous in that pic. Wait, I’m thinking of a photo caption…Charlie’s Angels. Get it? Okay, that was probably lame. It is too early and I have not yet had coffee. Not that it gets better after sunrise or with caffeine, mind you.

I’m NOT going to say “WOW”, just so you know!!! You are a gorgeous woman, with a gorgeous smile, and so much more! (I’m so glad I was right about your heading to Ree’s LODGE!) What a fun thing to do.

You’ve been runnin’ all over the places that I’ve lived for the past week and I’m not jealous, just wish you had time to see more – – – without getting totally wiped out from all the travel.

Some day I’d love to see your beautiful Australia, too. If-n-when . . .

Looking forward to your travelogue. Have continued fun and safety as you wind up your fabulous, whirlwind vacation trip and travel back home! So glad we got to see more of Bush Babe on the other side of the lens!

  • Bush Babe

Holy Catfish – 3 beautiful “belles”.
I could have said “Barramundi” – a bit more Aussie – but I hate that overpriced fish.
Where next – the three of you????
    Hollywood???
Nah! – stick to what you are and you don’t have to pretend.
    Great shots BB.
Anyhow BB, the cattle, horses and other assorted animals at your property are missing you and I dare say can hardly wait to see those ‘pink’ Texan riding boots.
    Keep having fun.
    Cheers
    Colin
ps: You are missing out on more RAIN!
