Cold Front

You know what I haven’t done for AGES around here?

A weather report.  I admit to getting a little ‘over-weathered’ (no comments about complexions please!) with all that flooding in January, and then we went on our little trip, and then… well. What can I say. I haz bin bizzy.

One morning this week, at around 6.15am, Dad called out to me from outside my toasty warm kitchen to come and see something amazing.  It was a cloud formation that stretched clear across the sky in an arrow-straight line.  And you could FEEL the chill it gave off.  We all admired the blanket of retreating cloud as it edged its way back to reveal a cold, clear blue sky.

A cold front*.  It brought with it temps plunging down to single figures. (Celsius, so in the 40s F).

Til now we have been lucky to avoid too much May chill, with lots of regular low cloud holding the warmth against the earth and saving us from early frosts.  That seems to have gone now.  It’s definitely ugg boot and ‘roaring fireplace’ weather.  (No, not snow, my American friends. If it ever snowed this far north, we would make worldwide headlines for climate change! Although our kids would be stoked.)

Predictions for the week ahead are:

weather may 28

Cool. No big frosts yet.  And still with the showers.

(Amazing after it had forgotten how to rain here for soooooo long, now it cannot seem to stop? And no, I am NOT complaining!)

How about you? How’s it looking in your neck of the woods/bush/city??

:-)

PS Thanks for encouraging comments on last post. They definitely helped. xx

PPS A better pic of this phenomenon was taken (with a mobile phone!) by my friend Jane. Check here.

  2. I took a photo of this front and sent it in to WINTV who used it as their backdrop. I thought it was fantastic!

  3. What a neat photo!! … that top one, especially!

Creeping into summertime temps here. Starting to hit the low to mid 90s (30-35C). I hope the severe weather is over for awhile!! I’ve had enough of tornado watches!

  5. Nice weather shot, BB. I’m glad the southern hemisphere is giving up some of that warm weather so we can trade in our long woolies and fuzzy socks for some sandals and sun hats.

Your weather report looks almost exactly like ours. Temps just above freezing, cloudy and a chance of rain for the next few days.

BB honey,,,your winter highs are considered pleasant summer days here in northern Alberta!!

  7. Here in West Texas the temp is in high 90′s to 100 degrees and no rain since last summer. Major drought conditions with brush fires. Over 2 million acres have burned in Texas this year. But we also have not had the tornadoes and flooding other parts of the U.S. have had to deal with. Really strange year.

  8. Single figures for us last night and this morning too, but it has bloomed into a beautiful clear sky day… Although we still need a light jumper. Great photos as always!
