Talent and humour and humility

I shouted myself a night in front of the telly last night.

It was reality television heaven – and I (channel) surfed up a STORM.

The Block, Masterchef and Australia’s Got Talent were all demanding my attention.  My poor hubs had head-spin with riding the crests of those ad breaks…  I have decided to share a couple of clips from Australia’s Got Talent – for those who missed it (or live in another part of the world!).  I have to say, this year the talent is AMAZING.  And I have selected my two favourite acts to share here (the others are all on the website link at the top of this par)…

The Old Fella

AKA retired farmer Rod Gregory.  (Warning: his comedy is naughty but very funny – watch at your own discretion Mum!)

This guy epitomises the oft-irreverent wit of bush characters and I start laughing even before he utters “Viagra” (which he inevitably does each performance!).  It probably helps if you see his earlier skits to explain his ‘turtle’ references…

And the amazing Jack Vidgen – 16 years old and an absolute star-in-waiting.  He had sung covers of some amazing, enormous songs in the lead up to the final – and then announced he would sing his own song.  I think plenty of people thought he would fall on his face…

Yeah.  Amazing, right?  I think this kid is super-talented, but (almost more importantly in Oz) he seems very grounded and humble and (hopefully) well-prepared for the tsunami of fame that is headed his way.

So who is your favourite AGT finalist?

What is your favourite reality show?

🙂

I really can’t pick one! They were all so good in their own right. I have a soft spot for The Bandit and for Cosentino too, I was just about to have a heart attack when he finally got out….
And would really love to see The Old Fella live for a FULL show – would be good therapy for the soul I reckon!
It was a good night of watching, and no matter who wins – there will be a few stars who sill continue to shine for years… Really top stuff.

I agree Sal – the Bandit is something else, isn’t he? I am no rap fan, but he is so heartfelt and quietly amazed at his success, you cannot help but love him. Cosentino is MADE for Vegas, don’t you think?

    Holy Catfish BB

First the old bloke ( sorry elderly gentleman) was risque but so funny.
Then the young kid, well he was amazing, lets hope his feet ( and they appear so far) are firmly planted on the ground.
    Many thanks – most enjoyable.
    Cheers

I didn’t watch (because they have been doing semi-finals forever and we forgot) but Consentino is pretty amazing.

That being said, anyone who does win this year has beat an amazing pool of talent – and those that don’t win should not feel any shame.

The ‘Old Fella’ made me laugh. The difference between your telly and our television is highlighted by this one video. It would never play here, that sort of routine, not on commercial television any way. We’ll allow rage and bad behavior and murder and mayhem, but we cannot allow the goodnatured banter of a man of the earth.

It is refreshing to hear a young man use the word ‘grateful’ so many times. Grateful is a term that has fallen out of favor, which is very sad.

Oz has plenty of talent! Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman (must see Australia again) Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger (rest in peace) Mel Gibson(loved him in that kilt). Glad Australia is so good about sharing. Good for you to keep the rest of the world aware of more incoming talent, and for hanging on to that t.v. remote.
