To quote, or not to quote…

Firstly a Bay Lulic update – the old girl, despite looking fairly perilously near death over the past couple of days, is still with us.  She is not standing up at all, but at least sitting (with help) and eating and drinking again.  Every time I think we have to make ‘the call’ she seems to rally.  Mr Incredible has become incredible at giving intravenous infusions (of some thick stuff with calcium and glucose etc)  into her jugular. Just another skill to add to his already-vast array.

My feet are bruised and skinned because I (stupidly) wore thongs to feed Bay Leaf this morning. Those little hooves are darned sharp. Ow!  Little possum is one enthusiastic feeder – don’t get between Bay Leaf and her bottle!

In other news…

I am also frantically working on getting the 2012 calendar happening – trying not to leave it too late this year.  I’d like to get a pre-order page set up so I can get some feeling as to how many I should print. Always a tough decision!

(Have you voted for your favourite bird shot for the calendar yet? If not pop back here.)

I have also almost done the cover page – sticking with my Roo in the Hole pic (actually a fencepost with the barbed bit resembling a kangaroo!). No doubt I will tweak it some more but it’s basically sorted.

What do you think?

I also have a huge selection of quotes to go with the various images which end up in the calendar.

Here are a couple that I just loved… they may or may not make it in, depending on how relevent they are to the pics finally chosen, but they sure made me smile:

“Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.” Mae West

“It’s not the message in your life that counts…it’s the life in your message.” Mae West

“Words have wings… so speak good things.” Anon

“Think of all the beauty still left around us and be happy.” Anne Frank

“You cannot prevent the birds of sorrow from flying round your head, but you can stop them making nests in your hair.” Don Juan

“Character is doing the right thing when nobody is looking.” J. C. Watts

“See everything. Overlook a great deal. Improve a little.” Pope John XXIII

“Life’s most precious gift is uncertainty.” Yoshida Kenko

“Happiness is a how, not a what; a talent, not an object.” Herman Hessse

“To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.” David Viscott

“When you run out of red, use blue!” Pablo Picasso

Do you have a favourite, funny, uplifting quote (with acknowledgement of author if possible)?

I’d love to hear it (and maybe borrow it for the calendar!)

🙂

PS How funny was Mae West? She had some serious spunk!

Hmmm, so many good quotes to choose from; where does one start?

The love of learning, the sequestered nooks,
And all the sweet serenity of books.
    ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
    ~ Dr. Seuss

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
    ~ Anne Frank

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
    ~ Albert Einstein

“Look for the good in every person and every situation. You’ll almost always find it.”
    ~ Brian Tracy

I appreciate the update on the Bay Lulic. She’s a tough old girl and may make it yet!

Of course I’ll order a calendar.

Are you including any flower shots this year? “Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them.” A.A. Milne

I love some other Milne quotes, too, but they probably aren’t relevant to the calendar.

Keep us posted on Bay Lulic! (and Bay Leaf)

    Hi

Well I love the two Mae West ones – isn’t there a more famous one missing???
A little risque, maybe? But would ENLIVED the calendar??
Great to know the “old girl” is hanging on. A miracle just might happen again – I hope so.

Debby, your column today about the baby bunnies (first time I have read you) hit me in such a great place that I have subscribed to you and sent you to my (large-breasted) sister from another mother in Canada.

Bay Lulic sits up and eats again—woot woot !~!

Ow feeties—will four-legged critters ever understand about our sensitive limbs. I can still hear a seven-year old who was trod upon by a horse just wailing about that pain.

“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.” – Maya Angelou

“You might have to fight a battle more than once to win it.” – Margaret Thatcher

“Just because we count it, doesn’t mean it counts; and much that does count, can’t be counted.” – Anon

“Life is mostly froth and bubbles, two things stand like stone, kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.” – Adam Lindsay Gordon

Have stacks of favorites, but these few came to mind. Hope all is well at the hospital today and fingers crossed that the will to stand up once again reaches her soon! x

Wow – there are some excellent quotes there (in the comments section also)

Ghandi – we must become the change we want to be

Mandela – And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
    May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I’m sitting here wondering if you are the sweet person who gets down on their knees to milk the downed cow. I’ll bet you didn’t know that one was on your job description when you left the city for the bush. Glad the mamma and baby are doing well. Yes, never get between a baby and its bottle!

Quote: “Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.” Anon. Okay, probably not useful for a calendar but I liked it.

Love them all! And I love the cover!

The David Viscott quote made me think of Moulin Rouge. “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return. ” Thank you Baz 🙂

The look for the site is a little bit off in Epiphany. Nevertheless I like your site. I might need to use a normal browser just to enjoy it.
