Views and news

My weather reports have been a bit hit-and-miss out here lately, haven’t they?  I know I have whinged (mostly on Twitter though I think – can’t keep up with what I said where sometimes) about how DRY it’s gotten over the past couple of months. Hot and dry and DUSTY.  With everything literally dusted in a pale terracotta. The novelty of this particular hue has worn off, despite last the floods 11 months ago.

Then, this week, we finally got some wonderful rain.  Almost two inches (in old money) or just under 50mm (new measure).  I cannot tell you how welcome it was – the lawn onto which I have been pouring water (pumped from our river bore) has burst back into an even green (after looking very patchy as I failed to make the circles of watered-areas join up).

So I thought I’d share a couple of views from our house, along with the news updates belonging each direction.

This is looking south-east.

Behind that shed is a massive project my husband has taken on – yard-building. Solo.  Since our jackaroo Lachy hurt himself just over a week ago, Mr Incredible has been spending his spare hours working alone on a new set of yards.  He actually loves working alone and is doing an amazing job… more pics in a few days on this.

Note also the gorgeous grey clouds looming behind the shed.  Someone got some delicious H2O from those…

This view is to the south-west.  It takes in our pool yard (the pool was built by my Dad many years ago) and the Quarters, where Lachy stays. Lachy is not there at the moment, he is trying his hardest to recuperate after having a tendon repaired – we sent him back to his Mum’s place for a little while.  Nothing like a Mum’s TLC to help the healing process.

This yard has also been the home of two little poddies – Bay Leaf and Horseradish.  If you look really closely you can see all the calf poop on the grass. The harsh reality of our Poddy Paradise. (Seriously, I even put the umbrella up for them if it’s too sunny!).

Yesterday, while I was mowing the lawn, they escaped out to the paddock.  All the cows and heifers gave them a thorough inspection and we decided they could spend the night out with the big girls.  This morning, bright and early, they were back in the houseyard bellowing to be let back into the poolyard. (You know, where the calf crumbles and milk buckets live.)

Their first steps in the outside world – and they still came home to Mum (or the milk). I am so proud.

There are some big things happening around our house – things which will make the views from my kitchen SO much better.  We have some friends coming this weekend to help us pull our laundry down – which will let me see the above view and the next one, from INSIDE the house (I currently have to go outside, or poke my head out the office window).  I am quite excited.

Of course, my husband cannot always SEE the need, to SEE the views.  He actually asked what ON EARTH I was taking a photo of NOW? … when I shot this:

Really? Is this something men can’t see, or just my man?

Coral and cobalt.

Bottle green and teal.

And not at ALL dusty.

Forecast is for more of the same… bring it on!

What’s it like in YOUR corner of the world?

Please do share in comments…

Wow, you live in a beautiful little part of the world! The colours are magnificent…I am staring out over bright blue skies (perfect after our 4″ of rain) albeit with a smoky haze (burning off) and new green shoots. Christmas may have come early! 🙂

We finally had our first snow this past weekend – about 4″ piled on top of my car when I decided to go out on Monday! I love snow, and even during my years in Atlanta we had snow and ice storms, which usually freaked out everyone. It has continued snowing most days, although lightly. Currently 23 degrees F – summer is gone.

I love the colors in your photos; Mr. I must be blind! I had a lovely view to the East yesterday as the West’s sunset oozed pink and baby blue colors in the East, with the thick coat of white below.

We had about an inch an a half of snow last night. My brave mini poodle, Henry went out and sniffed all over. My not so brave and cold Chinese Crested, Daisy went out and bumped (she’s blind)her way back in as quick as possible.

The mountain shots are gorgeous. Men are so focussed on functional! I used to live in western Queensland and photos like this make me a little homesick. After you’ve lived with views like this, it never leaves you. (In my mind, I can hear the cicadas in the late afternoon as the kids splash in the pool and you’re finally sitting down with a wine).

Yay for rain!! We’re getting some here too.

So his name is Horseradish! He must be doing well. I like your views. Very lush and green. Made me all daydreamy just to see it. Tim appreciates a good view as much as any, I suppose, but for some reason, they trigger somehting in my heart that is not triggered in mine. I suspect it is so with Mr. I. If you gush, “Isn’t that view pretty?” he will tell you that it is. And then he will go on about his business while I stand there staring off and daydreaming.

Well, Christmas is not far off, but the weather won’t play this year. In 2010 we had loads of snow; very unusual. Today it’s sparkling blue skies and temp around 5°C. Won’t last though, as rain has been anounced for next week.
BTW don’t let yourself be negatively influenced by DH. Your photos are very much appreciated; I love popping by and indulging in some warm weather via your pics; You guys have some amazing views. Remind me, come spring, to send you some photos of my view; you wouldn’t know it’s just outside of Paris!
