Festive mood

Our winter is here – and I know this for certain because our local festival parade was held today and it’s ALWAYS icy on parade day.

While the overcast weather DID mellow the temps a little, it was still quite UNwarm.  Which, if you are a sun-baby like me, is not fun.  Maybe the lack of sun has been what’s making me all melancholy lately?  I think I saw a study on that somewhere… I am lacking some Vitamin D.  Still, despite my longing to stay in my own living room, we rugged up and headed into town to help celebrate.

Wanna visit with us?

Two possums waiting for the parade to begin.

Lots and lots of possums (and grown-ups) also waiting…

The Festival Queen.  LOVE that cape… I have the loveliest memories of being a young girl and being allowed to sit on a float with the beautiful Queen of that Festival, and touching that rich red velvet.

That Queen? Still a great, great friend, and the second from the right in this photo. (Still beautiful too, and probably likely to kill me for posting this pic!)

And look…

my gorgeous SIL Neeta on the right, waving to my two.  This town is chock full of beauties, is it not?

Here’s another one…

A neighbour who took out Miss Personality.  I think you already knew that before you read the caption, right?

The most darling mother-and-baby (and best decorate pram) – my cousin’s wife and daughter.  I hope to take some ‘proper’ photos of this pair soon. I promised them baby photos, and Nell tells me ‘anytime before she’s three would be great’. I think this means I need to get a rattle on. Heh.

A fire-eater on stilts. Bemusing the locals.

Dash with his rear-view mirror on his sunnies. Don’t ask. I don’t know either.

A fabulous sign on a parade float.  Not sure if they were advertising for work, or someone to come to the pub with them! Love bush humour…

Speaking of which…

The town hearse. The entire street was in stitches as it went past…

Violet with her dream car in background. She likes purple. No. REALLY.

Almost as much as she loved this ride.

Her first ‘big fast ride’ without an adult.  Her little buddy got very squashed.

The parents watching laughed til they cried, watching them battle against several g-forces.

And that was VERY NEARLY as good as Vitamin D.

How was YOUR Saturday?

🙂

Of course it’s summer here…currently 85F heading for the low 90s. I ran errands yesterday so I’m staying inside in the A/C today! Looks like you had a great deal of fun…and the kids, as always, are adorable. Dash just doesn’t want anyone to sneak up on him from behind!!!

Love the photos of your friends and SIL on the float. Tell them they look wonderful. I LOVE hometown parades!

Twice a year we have the same weather–ours is sliding into summer and you are losing your long sunny days. KEEP ON POSTING!

I am like you, BB. Winter and I do not get on. September can’t get here fast enough.
Gotta say that those glasses, do give you eyes in the back of your head! What next will people come up with?
Street parades are always heaps of fun, obviously in your neck of the woods, hearses even get into the act – ha ha!
    Cheers

It was great. I worked today, came home, transplanted a crapload lot of plants from the old house to the new. Then we went shopping and I bought five polo shirts at the thrift shop. And a plant stand. And a coat hook. And an entertainment center for the TV and all its accoutrements. Blabbed with friends. Came home, and am headed to the livingroom to sprawl on the sofa and read the paper.

Lovely photos, it looks like you had lots of fun.
How icy is icy there? I am curious. The first day of summer is on June 20th here in New York. It about 71 this morning.

We have just tipped into Winter Down Under Margie, and it’s not THAT cold yet. We are in single figures (celsius) each morning and get up to low 20s during the day. Expecting frosts in next few weeks tho!
      🙂
