We have had visitors here at Granite Glen over the past week. If you were reading my previous post, you will have noted a very sweet comment from ‘Elodie and Damien’. And perhaps you took note of a pair of champion nappers at the Goodwill Games?
This pair, a cousin of Mr Incredible’s best mate, and his girlfriend, became part of our family for 6 days. And while we often have guests here in our home, this couple were a little unique. They were French. (Still are, actually!)
I love the French accent… even when I can’t understand it, it sounds so… melodic!
They were so very keen to help out wherever they could – apparently Damien’s cousin had hoped we were ‘preg testing’ so he could get the full ‘bush experience’. (If you don’t know what I am talking about, check this post from my friend Jenny!). It’s a chore that involves long plastic gloves and lubricant…
We did implement a special barter system for the duration of our French visitors’ stay.
THEY: cooked awesome rich, naughty FRENCH Quiche Lorraine.
WE: supplied quiet horses for first riding experiences.
Pickles was a champion…
Violet posing with our riders.
Seriously, this chick even looks good in a kid’s riding helmet. French style!
THEY: supplied naughty rich delicious made-from-scratch CHOCOLATE MOUSSE.
WE: supplied friendly bulls.
THEY: brought Brie.
WE: offered some hungry little heifers to feed (not on Brie, on some hay!)
THEY: did a LOT of washing up.
WE: allowed our children to give them some soccer practice. (heh).
THEY: taught us some French words.
WE: Gave them sausage rolls and taught them to dunk-and-slam Tim Tams.
You see the cultural exchange going on here?
And if you think we were happy to see they back of them…
You’d be very, very wrong!
And au revoir, our French friends… til we meet again.
