Hedgehog Hurdles
Took this series of pics one afternoon recently… spotted an echidna crossing the road and bounded out of the car, Nikon aloft and bemused son in my wake.
I was berry, berry quiet and sneaky… waiting for him to unfurl himself from his usual echidna protective response (rolling into a spiky ball) to attempt the Hedgehog hurdles.
I have made a slideshow to capture the ‘action’ for you.
And before you ask… YES, it is pretty close to real time. (Okay, maybe sped up SLIGHTLY!)
Note the ‘hesitations’ (or rollups) mid sequence… I suspect these are in leiu of a proper ‘run up’ in true hedgehog style.
Any other Bush Olympians out there?
What’s your favourite event in the ‘Real’ Olympics?

he he he at Dash’s comments! I thought you could have done more with the Echidna Olympics – perhaps the st-eeplechase – although Hs are pretty thick on the ground when talking heights…

Nice hack, Dash. 🙂 What cool animals. I love the cautious peering over the log, measuring the distance between him and any potential threats.

Love this post… hedgehogs are fascinating to me even though I’ve never seen one in real life. I thought it was a great fun slide show and I found myself trying to help the little one over the log!
My favorite Olympic summer sport is sculling. I love to watch it.

I’ve been creeping about on your blog for quite a while, admiring all the ravishing photographs and really enjoying being back in Queensland. Thank you for spending the time in sharing them with all your miscellaneous visitors.
