Razzmatazz

Amid the craziness of the past weekend – which included two sets of visitors, two social events 550km apart and preparations for three birthdays, we attended a local ball.

A ball with the theme ‘Razzmatazz’.   Which initially confused the heck out of me, then scared me until my sister-in-law offered her fringed black strapless flapper dress.  Which I immediately converted into a skirt. (Nobody sees these knees, my friends).  Violet, as you might expect, got excited.

And decided that blingy fake eyelashes were the go. Having never even contemplated fake eyelashes myself, I called on my friend Gill (part of Visitors Number 1) to assist.

I gave those things 20 minutes max. They lasted all night long…

Violet had a ball.  At the ball. (Yeah, sorry).

Especially when the glamorous ‘big girls’ took her under their dancing ‘wings’ – they have since informed me that SHE was showing THEM some moves. Ha!

Violet’s mother didn’t win accolades for costume selection for her – check out the fringe action on this lot! And the dude on the right… sensational!

Aside: One of the great things about living in the bush, is that pretty much all social events include kids.  It has to – you couldn’t really go otherwise as babysitters are rarely handy.  So kids come along and participate (and often fall asleep under the table or nearby!).

Goo-Goo took the theme a little far later on in the night – where she became part-mobster, part-flapper.  Don’t mess with Goo-Goo!

It was an incredible evening with almost all attendees getting right into the spirit!  Our little school’s principal (right below) managed not only to help organise and decorate for this fabulous event, but also cope with school-holiday vandalism at our school (an event which has shocked our whole community).

The woman deserves a medal.  Check out the decor efforts in the tin shed which served as the venue… acres of hessian, tonnes of paper rosettes, kilometres of fairy lights and terrific silhouettes of 1920’s images.  It took three days to do!

The meal was served on platters to carve at the table and self-serve…

Dash got right into it! (For those concerned, this is a posed photo and a waitress actually did the carving! But that chef’s hat stayed on most of the evening!)

Some more fashions of the evening… prizewinners for Best Dressed in various sections:

Loving the photo bomb at bottom left!  There was some Gangster action at our table…

My uncle Tex and his son-in-law Joel compared weaponry.

Two of the most beautiful girls there (inside and out) – yes, the same as those in photo dancing with Violet above.

My darling, beautiful friend Gill with her slumbering daughter and some random blogger-in-black…

Cal being roped into helping with the games – I believe this one was Toss the Hat onto the Peg. Quite funny.

All in all it was a great night – a little glam and a lot of fun.  Living it up in the bush!

What is your version of a night out?

Are there balls or formal social events in your neck of the woods?

🙂

I love the family friend atmosphere…here too often, the kids events and the adults events are so dilineated. I like the idea of the kids being there and having a good time, as their parents have a good time, and even falling asleep under the tables. It’s part of what makes me think you are in a perfect world.
Debby´s last blog post ..I fits.

It is not perfect Debby – nothing ever is (as proven by our school’s vandalism). But the ‘good bits’ are pretty darned fantastic!!

OH, what fun! TLW looked so cute in her pretty outfit and eyelashes. The vandalism is such a shame and it is happening everywhere. We do have things going on with special picnics, Country Days, parades with a game day for the kids, usually a band at night and everyone dances. Sister City Days with all of the above. Lots of fun and nice to be with people you haven’t seen for awhile.

Well, Duh me. Those aren’t formal events, they are laid back events, my favorite kind. My version of a night out is dinner at our favorite steak house restaurant and whatever we do afterwards which could be and usually is, going to a club that has a band and tipping a few back, LOL. Sorry if I shocked anyone but there it is, LOL!
