Red dirt DOWN
Haven’t the school holidays just FLOWN by? *sigh*
We have had a busy but lovely time out here – any children at Granite Glen know MUCH better than to ever say they are bored. We have SO many jobs waiting to be done that they either A) volunteer to help and maybe earn some pocket money or B) entertain themselves. I keep it black-and-white like that. I think they love me anyway…
We always adore having my niece (my sister‘s eldest daughter) to stay… she is honestly like another one of our little family.
She just loves horses (a passion she shares with Violet) and is extremely strong-willed (a trait also shared with our daughter)… it makes for a rollercoaster ride sometimes but they seem to sort themselves out. She and Dash get on very well – he quite used to following direction from one female or another around this place!
The three of them were in fabulous pocket-money earning mood last week, and washed the car for me. Now if you know me, and know my car, you will know this is NOT a little task.
I cannot believe how much ‘Salina she is growing up – almost a young woman really.
But the three worked happily together to remove a serious amount of red dust and mud to reveal the slate grey of the original vehicle…
Making for some great reflections of smiling faces (and some wild hairdos!)
What a team, eh? I don’t know that I have ever loved them more than at this very moment!
Look at that – fit for town viewing! Shame this look never lasts… blimmin’ red dirt roads.
Of course, there is always a payoff for this kind of result…
My kitchen floor didn’t look too flash after being visited by these feet. And Violet also hit me up for a new anklet.
Definitely my daughter, that one!

In the southern States, which used to boast a high volume of textile mills, we always had the week of the 4th of July as “vacation” week. That week was right in the middle of summer holidays from school.

Sorry – posted prematurely. As children, our feet were always red, too. We have red clay here and it’s like paste when wet. What a mess. Everyone knew who lived on dirt roads – still do. Lovely pictures. I hope you let us view your photo exhibit. You do such beautiful photography.

We had the same kind of “don’t say you’re bored” deal around here when our kids were younger. There were always things to alleviate that problem!

Yeah, kids learn early on not to complain about boredom. Looks like that wash job was well worth some spending money. Love the grins and the decorated toes too.
