And they call the thang…

Thought y’all might like to see a glimpse of our weekend…

(Apologies for the imitation American twang here today – it seemed appropriate with all the colourful boots and chaps and cowboy hats in this post!)

With Mr I and Dash away on a boy’s fishing weekend, Violet and I attended a small local rodeo on Saturday, cheering on our jackaroos Lachy and Cal as they took part in their chosen sport.

Lachy, who is tall and lean, is a saddle bronc rider.

Cal, who is a little more solid, is a bull rider.

I had never really comprehended the differences of each style of riding before now.  All rodeo requires enormous doses of courage and lightening anticipation – if you don’t have those, plus a lot of wiry strength, you WILL come undone. In the most spectacular (and public) way.

Here is a slideshow of the action – see if you can spot Lachy and Cal in the mix.

Brace yourself for a series of shots of one of the boys’ mates, who managed somehow to get a leg over his arm (which was stuck in the rope) in the bull ride.

How’s that for action?

Mothers, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys! (At least not unless you have a VERY strong stomach – isn’t that right Tracey*).

What did you get up to on YOUR weekend?

🙂

*Lachy and Cal’s very brave ma.
