Never say ‘never again’

So if you had asked me six weeks ago if I was doing a 2017 Bush Calendar, I would have laughed.

Laughed. Out. Loud.

My motivation was very much absent, my energy being spent on other ‘projects’ and recovering from some serious foot surgery (long boring story, for another day).  Then my city girlfriends came for their annual pilgrimmage, and (as they do every year) selected their favourite images from my archives…

And guess what?

I did it again!!!  Meet the 2017 edition of the ‘Bush Babe of Oz’ Bush Calendar…

Because, even when I think there’s nothing to choose from… enough quirky country snaps rise to the surface!  Shall we stroll through the months, the images and the quotes.

Alrighty then…

January…

The biggest attitude in the smallest critter on the place – a willy-wagtail strutting his stuff in a fence rail, and living out a Mae West quote perfectly…

02-2017-calf-e

February…

This one was a no-brainer as one of my most popular Facebook posts – this little bull was LOVING his Mum’s attention and this Irish proverb fit like a glove!

03-2017-purple-rain-wm-e March…

I couldn’t believe the colours of the sky and this heavy shower of rain when I snapped it – and how could I NOT use this line from my favourite Prince song to accompany?

April…

Snapped whilst waiting for Dash to finish yet ANOTHER afternoon of fishing (the boy loves casting a line!) this little lizard (and his SUPER long tail) seemed so tiny against the huge river and timber it was negotiating.  I have been sitting on this quirky quote for a couple of years now, and I reckon it suits this pic to a T.

05-2017-autumn-wm-w May…

Our Liquid Amber turns on the most incredible display of colour every year – afternoon light through it’s leaves is quite magical.  The passion in George Eliot’s autumn quote captures exactly how I feel about this tree (and this season!).

06-2017-bull-touch-e June…

My husband doesn’t love being in front of a camera – and he argued against this photo being selected!  But this moment of gentle connection (which happens incredibly often on our place) was too smile-worthy not to include.  And it’s my calendar, so I win! And this spin on ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ seemed utterly appropriate.

07-2017-2birds-wm-e July…

Another ‘by the river’ snap – a little bit of action, a whole lot of straight-up serenity and a flash of sunset colour.  John Burroughs nature quote reflects me – if I’ve been in the house too long, or in town too much, I know I need a good dose of Mother Nature!

08-2017-chimmy-e August…

I traditionally put an equine image in the month which celebrates ‘the horses’ birthday’ (August 2).  Chimmy is not our prettiest horse, but he IS close to the most cherished (as both Dash and Violet ride him) and he was posing up a storm here, in that magical afternoon light near the horse yards.  He always makes us smile, so this ‘sunshine’ quote was the obvious choice!

09-2017-birds-chaos-e September…

Don’t be a blimmin’ GALAH!  Whenever we have a bale of hay for cattle near the house, we get inundated with cockatoos and galahs… it’s a bit of a circus as they get rough and raucous over the ‘good bits’.  A mad quote was required, and I believe Douglas Adams came up with the goods for me…

10-2017-emu-2-wm-e October…

They may not offer great colour or plumage, or even very many brains, but our emus really do crack me up.  No-one could every accuse them of being boring… much like Ms Monroe, whose quote so smartly fits this shot.

11-2017-ducks-wm-e November…

Ducklings!  Ducks have been a big part of our lives for a few years now… and nothing is cuter that tiny feathered things.  Especially when they arrange themselves around abandoned boots!  Such innocence needed an optimistic quote – and I do love this one.

12-2017-sunset-tree-e December…

Bush sunsets are in a league of their own… the colours in this snap, taken from our driveway overlooking our stretch of the river and into a blaze of glory, are as close to the real thing as I could capture.  And if this isn’t the absolute PERFECT line to go with it, I don’t know what is!

And finally, because it was a popular addition last year, the rainfall/snowfall chart is back!

rainfall-2017-2-e

With Dash’s hand emptying our gauge when we got lucky sometime over the past 12 months!

So there it is! It is being printed on fabulous heavy stock which WON’T curl and will look great the whole year.

It’s the same price ($25 each) and can be ordered the same way*, as last year. (On Facebook here or see below.)

Don’t forget, I also have some great Christmas cards to accompany the calendar (they come in 5-packs)…
