Sepia and Aqua…
It’s been dry here at Granite Glen – a long time since our last proper rain.
The grass has dried and faded to a soft burnt sepia.
Artistic, sure.
Tasty and juicy for our bovine residents.
No.
Tasty and juicy for our bovine residents.
No.
Dust has also dulled the green hues of leaves and the shiny white trunks of gum trees.
And sprinkled my clean car with drifts of fine red sediment.
(Why do I bother washing this thing! Arrrggghhh!)
A lack of heaven-sent moisture has also sucked the verde from my lawn – sprinklers just don’t do the same job (plus it’s hard to justify that precious water seeping into the ground when we may need it for the cattle troughs and my washing machine!).
See how brown it is inside our white fence?
But guess what?
It’s raining today.
Soft hardly-there drops.
I’m not game to get too excited, but I’ve left the jeans on the clothesline to tempt it down some more…
*does silly rain dance while daughter looks on in concern*
YAY!

In Hawaii, they referred to that misty rain as ‘pineapple’ rain.

Love your pictures and words! I can relate to the “red dust” dilemma and the “leaving the jeans on the line to tempt the rain.” We usually water the garden or wash the car, “forget” to take the umbrella, that sort of thing to tempt the rain here. Sometimes it acutally seems to work! But then our “drought” conditions are usually quite rare. Louisiana is a very lush and green place MOST of the time. So, when we have excessively hot, dry summers, it’s really bizzare. And we still have really muggy, hot weather in spite of no rain during those times. Weird. Or, on years like this and in 2006 we can get 4 inches of rain in a single hour.
Hope your rain picks up and maybe we can share some of ours with you?

It’s so crazy to think you are getting into winter! It was 90 degrees here yesterday! Too hot to even think about anything but swimming. I love the stump picture!!

It’s raining here today, too.
We’re going swimming in puddles soon.
Hope there’s more rain on it’s way to Granite Glen 🙂
