I spent an entire post navel gazing
recently…thinking about the means by which I try to make myself into a more attractive human being.
It gave me a headache.
I mean, really, who cares?
Apparently me…
…
My hubby reckons I look better without makeup.
Gads, I love that man!
But I still have that foundation and mascara in place whenever I face the outside world…
My kids couldn’t care less if I have my hair roots coloured or not…
Yet I become very uneasy when those nasty “blonde” locks show their true colours.
I can’t decide if I need to work harder on my self-image, or let it all go to pot and say “what the hey, this is who I am!”
I somehow doubt I’m that brave.
…
Amongst the things about living in the bush that I truly treasure is that the animals – who are the ones who have to look at me the most – don’t give a flying fig if I have eye bags or broken nails or uneven skin tone.
…
Like my darling Yvette…
She has burrs in her forelock, but she knows I love her no matter the state of her locks. And I may be kidding myself, but I reckon she feels pretty much the same about me..
Hasn’t she got the most wonderful eyes? Dark and delicious and kind…
And for a moment I see myself as she sees me…close, trustworthy, friendly, gentle… to a horse: a lovely sight.
Well, a lovely sight with a black box plastered to her face. All Yvette wants is a cuddle and perhaps a sheaf of hay. But only if I’m in the mood. She’s sweet and easy-going like that. She also likes the odd facial, but that’s another story…
If I look closely into this image with my human eyes, I can see her view. But I also see that those thighs could do with some work. How sweet it would be to keep my equine blinkers on.
I reckon the world would be a better place if everyone took a good hard look at themselves, for a moment, through Yvette’s eyes.
What makes you feel better about yourself?

I don’t think I’d be able to give up make-up or haircolor either.
I like to write and to think and to be useful. I always feel better about things.

G’day! Leslie from Canberra here. It’s nice to meet you through PW. Isn’t she beaut?
That’s a lovely horse you have there. I had a pony in Brisbane when I was 12 for a year – then I lived on a station near St George in Queensland for 3 months and rode a lot.
I’m looking forward to reading your blog this weekend – and finishing off PW’s – I have a couple of months from 2007 to go.

amazing photos and story – Yvette is a gorgeous soul.

What makes me feel better about myself….my divorce…my ex hated just about everything about me…except my cooking and he thought I was a good mother. Those two things don’t make a girl feel any prettier. Ten years have passed and I don’t think very many self dislike thoughts anymore.
You GOTTA love a man you loves you best without makeup!

Love your lovable horse. She is beautiful! And about wearing make-up . . . I think the best make-up job is one that enhances your features w/o looking like you’re wearing make-up. I know we’ve all seen women (and unfortunately, some men) who wear so much or inappropriately applied make-up that it is VERY detracting. I want to do make-overs for them and show them that beauty is usually subtle with the right application of “additives”.
I think, BB, that you’re probably one of those natural beauties. Least what few pics you’ve allowed us to view, you seem that way to me! Bravo.

No hair colour or make up here…just the umpteen grey hairs making themselves at home lol.
Pulling on my Blunnies makes me feel great, invincible and pretty damn handy in the garden 😉

I totally love that you guys are so diverse and yet so similar at heart… makeup, haircolour, Blundstones and grey hairs.
In the words of a famous Aussie boxer: I love youse all!!!
Thanks for helping make my day…
Hugs

PS PW – I’ll slip you that fiver later!! You gorgeous, deluded lady!

We love you back. What’s a blunnie?

Love your mare’s eyes!
I couldn’t do without the hair color, either. I also almost always wear mascara when I leave the house (dang blonde lashes!) I will say, as I have gotten into my upper 30’s, I have cared less and less what I look like. I think you begin to accept yourself for who you are. And I like a little big of aging, it’s real.
I always feel better about myself after I’ve spent a day with my horse! Because I’m good at it and it just makes me happy.

Deb – Blunnies are Blundstone’s. Usually boots which are practical, tough and comfortable. Great for gardening and hiking. (Jayne can fill you in further on the exploits of hers!).
Pony Girl – glad someone else relies on the old female artifice to lift their spirits/provide some armour for the outside world! (And Deb!). And I know what you mean about horses… there is something soul-soothing about them. Must be the smell!
Leslie – how did you go with the archives? I haven’t read them myself for yonks… hope you enjoyed! And yes, I bow at the feet of the wonderous Ree…
Baby Amore – ta love!
Steviewren – so sorry you had someone who chose not to make you feel good about yourself. Much better to have positive people in your life – everyone deserves good feedback!! Now, I need some help in the kitchen… 🙂
PW – I admit I do try to keep it light in the makeup dept. Blend, blend, blend. No eyeshadow, no heavy lipstick. Work with what you;ve got I say…
Hugs

Hi there, thanks a lot for dropping by my bubble and for your kind comment. Thanks for sharing a bit about you as well. That photo there is quite recent, but we’ve been together for over 9 years now.
I also love your site, would definitely come back to read more of your entries. I’m hoping that we could move to the country some day, enjoy more of nature and animals.
Yvette’s gorgeous! =)

My kids and dh are that to me, but I’ve got a special mare too, Memphis. I’m pretty sure she loves me more than my dogs do.
