Winter woes…
It’s winter here at Granite Glen…
We’ve had frosts already.
Amazingly, I’ve not been up early enough to capture one with the Nikon yet.
Myself, I’m not so keen on the cold.
In my experience, one needs lots of doonas and a good Bailey’s on ice to deal with the chill factor…
Red noses, goose bumps, dry skin…
Not fun.
I’m definitely a summer girl.
…
But recently that the one thing that I look forward to about winter actually happened.
There really is nothing like an array of flickering flames to warm the bones of this little black duck… it really sets the scene, a crackling fire.
Fascinating fire…
A kind of ancient magic…

It’s getting cold where we are too, BB. I’m with you on being a summer girl!! BBrrrrr!
I love our fireplace. I love any fireplace. Great pictures.

Oh gosh. This little black duck has had the log fire burning for the last 4 weeks. I am SO not a winter person. Anything under 18 degrees should be outlawed.

I, too, love a good fire and will go to great lengths to get/keep one burning. Even when the central heat is running in our winter-time, I nice fire actually WARMS my cold toes and just–as you mentioned–looks and feels much warmer! Add to that a good book, a nice afgan and I’m good to go!
Why don’t you come enjoy our summer? It’s 90 plus degrees here with mega humidity. In other words HOT and miserable. AND the bugs are out and attacking me whenever I go outdoors! (I’m sorry to complain. Your pictures are always welcome here.

‘Scuse me, that should read “A nice fire”. My fingers don’t think so good.
Leslie who is cold in Canberra
Did you know I lived in Roma for four years? That was after I lived south of St George for 3 months on the station.
I’ve had a ball last weekend reading all of your blog. 🙂

Hello all… night-time again here and again a chilly one. I’m reading your lovely comments as it flickers behind me and Sir David Attenborough chats with Andrew Denton on ABC.
Leslie – I know how horribly cold Canberra can be. GG is a tad warmer, if not at night, then definitely during the middle of the day! Glad you liked your wade through my archives. What’s your favourite bit??
PW – I recall commiserating with you and Debby when your winter was bad, and my summer was warm. Nice of you to return the favour! Hot sounds nice even with the bugs.
Alison – another fire-side girl. Hope yours is keeping you cosy.
Rhubarbwhine – Cairns sounds good at the moment!!!
🙂

Hmmm … 90 degrees (F) here. I can’t even think about lighting a fire in the fireplace. Ugh.
