(Almost) Wordless Wednesday… Ironbark Sentries

At some angles, the trees through which our ‘driveway’ winds appear random, wild, haphazard…
.

They are called ironbarks, planted by Mother Nature many years ago.

Stern, stalwart, steady.
.
And then, when you look at a certain angle….
it becomes startlingly obvious that…

Mother Nature is the original landscape architect…

How beautiful – I love our trees. Do you know, looking at your pics just reminded me that I recited The Man From Snowy River to my students today.

Of course She was the original; landscape gardeners have been trying, unsuccessfully most times, for years to improve on Her perfection 😉

Leslie – I love that you are teaching kids some wonderful Aussie folklore. My dad does the most wonderful rendition of this… if I can get my hands on a microphone I might record him one day.

Jayne – I agree. I am constantly confronted with “Her” flair and ingenuity up here at Granite GLen…

Debby – I have asked Dad this very question tonight. He reckons they would be between 120 and 150 years old. They were big mature trees over 60 years ago (when his family arrived here). Amazing…

Very cool! We mostly have cedars in the woods behind our house. They’re very messy and don’t look much like sentries. And they’re a haven for ticks. We need to plant some nice trees.

Ya see now, that’s just not fair. I had a fine day today, not one single thought about “Wouldn’t it be so great to go somewhere? Like, oh I don’t know… Australia?” (My constant threat of Where I Will Move When I Finally Lose It Entirely) and then I have to check your blog and see those gorgeous pictures. And I must say it for the millionth time in my life – Australia just looks like the most beautiful country on earth.

Could be your photos, of course!!

Marty52 – welcome and yes, the afternoon sun is rich and glorious!

Karen – don’t know whether I’d recommend ironbarks. They take a looooooong while to grow.

PW – you are too sweet. Thanks darl!

I’m Julie – you Americans say the nicest things. Australia can be beautiful, but it can also be harsh and unforgiving (sounds like some politicians I know!). My little neck of the woods is my bit of heaven on earth… thanks for virtually visiting and appreciating!
