Roses supposes (the hues on the) noses

My roses are out in bloom.

OK OK. My Mum‘s roses are out in bloom.
I can hardly take the credit. Just because I have lived at this house for almost two years (as an adult and chief ‘gardener’) and I have been known to actually water this garden (on occasion, when things get crispy) doesn’t mean I get to take kudos for the fabulous rose blooms themselves. I mean, I might actually have attempted the pruning on my own this year (thankyou, thankyou) and been terrified I had mauled the bushes to death, but the many years of establishment of these fine (and hardy) rosebushes belongs to my mother.
Thanks Mum!
And there are three bushes with amazing deep red blooms.

Not that you would know.

Because the photos have a weird yellow hue to them.
And I don’t know why. It’s driving me crazy. So I’m going to talk (whinge) cameras for a sec… bear with me. I wondered if it was the late afternoon sun-shade they were bathed in. So I fiddled with the white balance. I played with the metering. I even messed around in Photoshop.
Still. Orange-ish. Roses.
Aaarghhh!

Seriously, I think they’d look better in black and white.

Ya think?

I don’t know! I hate to disagree with our contest winner but I think the BandW is very striking. It brings out every detail, sharp and crisp. I like it. I also love the color ones. Gorgeous roses BB (and Mum).

Love the colored pictures, the black and white just doesn’t do it. Love roses!

It seems so odd that your flowers are starting to bloom while in our hemisphere everything is turning brown and getting ready for winter.

They’re so pretty! I think I could actually smell them just looking at those pictures! 🙂 It’s hard to imagine roses here, as we head into fall….

I too live on a cattle property and have a lovely family in Queensland – unlike you the photos on my blog are very ordinary. You have inspired me to at least ask for a great camera for XMas (any suggestions on make model would be welcome). I have just started my blog http://farmerbub.blogspot.com
Look forward to following your blog

are you using a polarizing filter? if not, that might help. colours are something you can adjust when doing your photo editing.

DW – no filter (don’t like em!) and I have fiddled in PS7. No luck. Freaky, eh?

FB – thanks for your intro, coming over to check you out shortly! Now if you are spending someone else’s money on camera stuff, I am EXACTLY the right girl to talk to!! Heh.

PG – I know. I heart our opposite seasons. means we get to enjoy each twice a year (via the miracle of blogging)!!! And these roses smelt DIVINE…

Portia – ditto above comment. And love your new icon pic. Kewl…

Kate – thanks love. I kinda like the BW too, but I am weird in my affection for that medium. Am considering therapy.

Deb – your wish is my command, my dear. *winks at Kate*. Now go rest. We love ya!

    🙂

Color, color, color. That's my mantra, and I'm stickin' to it! Ask anyone in my family about my heart throbs for color.

I have learned to appreciate the "ART FORM" of B&W pictures, esp. due to my youngest daughter's excellent artictic abilities, eye, photo skills.

    But roses . . . Color. PLEASE!

And like others above, I can almost smell them. Your photos are beautiful! (Surprise! Not.)

ooops. Wonder what “artictic” abilities are? Something cold sounding, no? ‘Scuse me. Should read: artiStic abilities. I’m so in a fog. %-)
