I’m not much into alternative therapies. Don’t get me wrong – I enjoy a bit of mediation music with the best of them. I’ve even done Yoga on occasion and thought it was great. Very stretchy. Invigorating even. But that was pre-Great Dane. Pre-one totally bung knee. (Another story. Another time.)

These days I find my stress release in other ventures. Chief among them is chocolate-nibblin’. And chardonnay-sippin’. These pursuits, while being enormous fun and instantly satisfying, are slightly detrimental to my derriere. Luckily I have another stress-relieving, soul-soothing activity. Can you guess what it is? Really?
It’s photography. (If you’ve been here before, I do hope you are saying “Duh!” about now!).
…
On my trip home from our bull sale this week (and before I knew
just what awaited me at home!) I managed to relieve a little of the pre-and post-event tension. My way.
With a little snap of this…
And a little shot of
that…
And a series of these…
It took only a minute to stop beside the highway and grab these shots from the window of the Prado…
But the serenity of this vista, with Mother Nature flaring up and dashing the best of her fiery paint palette across the sky, transfixed me.
Stilled me.
And in lifting the camera, setting the frame and clicking the shutter, I felt this sunset work its magic. Soothing the frayed edges of my mood and seeping into holes in my soul.
And the real magic of those amazing moments that take us from day into night is that we all get them.
Daily. And they are free.
Have you stopped to let YOUR sunset work its magic lately?
If you haven’t got a camera to help you focus, you can borrow mine…
(the sunset, that is. The camera stays in situ!).
(Let me know if it helps!)

I notice these things too, and they are very soothing to me. The night before last, the moon was so gorgeous it stopped me in my tracks to stare and smile dreamily. It is morning here, and raining. I’m just the slightest bit ‘jangly’ today.
Your pictures were marvelous. Sooooothing.

Good. It’s working then. Your day starts as mine ends – sleep for me… sending soothing vibes your way!

Such beautiful shots. Very soothing. I missed my sunrise this morning so i used your sunset instead. Thank you. I love the moon shot. I love the moon. It was full yesterday…day before yesterday? Anyway it was so big and beautiful. It always stops me in my tracks. I wish i had a camera that would do it justice. I especially love the moon this time of year, in the northern hemisphere :-), my big ole harvest moon. Ahhhh.

Love those shots, especially the last one 🙂

What gorgeous sunset photos! Sunsets are one of my favorite things to photograph. Slowing down and looking for things to photograph, opening my eyes to the wonder that surrounds me at any time and in any place, is one of the greatest joys and best stress relievers possible. When I can’t stop to take photos or don’t have my camera with me, I find myself taking mental photographs of everything, searching for perfect photos that no one else will ever see. Actually, now that I think about it, that’s something I’ve done all my life, even before I ever had a camera. I wonder if other people do it too. Do you?

Very theraputic, Bush Babe.

Those pictures are just beautiful. You can see so far into the distance that your sky seems larger over there. Love that bottle tree!

Glad you all enjoyed these… amazing that just a few seconds of your day can capture such beauty (kinda!).
Jenni – I am going to post on this very thought soon. You are a mind-reader!!!
Deb – so wonderful to hear that your news today was as calming as this sunset!!! A good day, indeed!
Cher – there are those who might claim that Queenslanders and Texans have quite a bit in common (we firmly believe that this is God’s Own Country, and nothing else is quite as good! Even our skies are bigger, according to Portia. Heh!)
Thanks!

That moon shot is awesome – sunsets used to calm me a lot but these days I find that the moon does a better job.
