Drama is rife here at Granite Glen tonight…
…
It began just as I was reading a bedtime story to Dash…
We were just one page into ‘Top Cat’ when my six-year-old son’s eyes grew huge.

We were just one page into ‘Top Cat’ when my six-year-old son’s eyes grew huge.
Well, even HUGER than normal…
Chewing frantically on his right index finger while his left hand clutched at his chest, he began stuttering:
Mum, Mum, Mum!
Mum, Mum, Mum!
Imagining something dreadful, I sat bolt upright and grabbed his face in my hands.
What? What is it?
He opened his mouth and with half a fist still stuffed between his top and bottom teeth he muttered:
“Mah ‘oof az ‘obbig!!”

Pardon? said I
(my Dentist-speak not quite being up to speed for fist-muffled conversation).
I pulled his saliva-covered fingers from his mouth.
What IS WRONG?
He smiled the most beatific smile at me and announced:
My TOOTH IS WOBBLING!
Really, REALLY WOBBLING!!!

Okay, here’s the thing. I won’t be able to read your blog until that particular Blessed Event is well and truly over. Loose teeth give me the collywobbles, and I mean big time. In fact, my children used this to their advantage to blackmail me. My daughter once stood in front of a rack of chocolate bars and said, “if you don’t buy me one, I’ll do THIS!” and proceeded to thrust her tongue against the wiggly tooth, forcing it back and forth in the gaping socket, the sucking sound echoing in my ears, until I almost passed out. “Yes, YES ANYTHING YOU WANT!!” I remember screaming before I collapsed, but not before she grabbed my wallet and emptied it. It’s heavy irony that I married a dentist when pretty much All Things Dental, and particularly loose teeth, render me insensible.
Good luck with that. Let me know when it’s all over but the shouting.
(shudder)

Your son is too cute! And how exciting for him to have his first loose tooth!

Loose teeth are my favorite. So what’s the Tooth Fairy pay Down Under?

We are going through a lot of dramas here in cool Canberra – last night’s was a dislocated finger at the basketball.
Two days ago, my youngest was driving his boss’s car to go get all the lunches, and it got dingled by someone!

‘Salina wanted to ask “which one” – she thinks it is his left. lol

OMH! How cute is this kid? What a doll. Do you remember what a weird feeling that was to have a loose tooth? I barely remember. Please keep us updated. AND!!! I LOVE my montage. I’m sending you a reply right now 🙂
Good luck with the tooth Dash!
The wv today makes me think of a crazy cool Aussie word: catiatch
Jayne
The going rate is $1 per tooth 😉
dykewife
the phrase “hand to his chest” nearly stopped my heart!
i’m so glad it’s a loose tooth and nothing else.
Bush Babe
Thanks Jayne… I totally needed to know that info. Good on you!
Kate … thanks. Yes he is! And I think a catiatch would be something cricket-related??
Leslie… hope everyone is still in one piece down there!
Natarojo and Lil Mama… WELCOME! And see Jayne’s comment (I had no clue! It’s my first loose tooth as the person responsible for organising the tooth fairy!)
Pam (ANW).., nooooooo!!! You are the Denists Wife. You HAVE TO HOLD MY HAND!!!!
M+B and Andrew … he is so excited it’s hilarious. He cannot hold down a conversation that requires his tongue to go anywhere near the front of his mouth… the wide eyes kick in and he starts pushing at it. Cracks me up!
Debby … thanks for realising how un-funny it was initially!!
🙂
