Sober and stormy thoughts…
Terrible storms have ripped through the city three times this week,
and I ache for those who have lost so much in the devestation.
So much damage has been done to property and at least two people have lost their lives in these storms.
Am hoping all those I know there are safe and well.
….
We had a bad windstorm here yesterday which brought down big ironbarks and gum trees everywhere. The damage around the house was limited, as we are careful NOT to have big trees near the building itself. My bother’s mailbox was smashed to smithereens by a huge blue gum and we have been snigging logs off the roads in order to get through. We are also hoping all the cattle and horses have come through unscathed. It’ll take us while to get round all the paddocks to check.
…
Hugs to those also involved in the terrible balcony collapse in Ascot.
Where an afternoon of happy celebration turned so tragic.
My heart goes especially to the son whose mother was celebrating his graduation, and who will not get to celebrate any more of his precious milestones with him.
…
I will think of him when I pick my son from the schoolbus this afternoon.
Life is so bloody precious!

Wow, tough times. Thinking of you and your friends during all the chaos that bad weather can bring to a town or city! You are so right, life IS precious, and we so often forget that as we get caught up in day-to-day stress and petty “stuff.”

I agree Pony Girl. I allow myself to focus on very trivial things and forget about the big stuff. Prayers out to all of those that are suffering right now.

Sad and scary, best wishes to all.

Sorry to hear of all the devastation down there! We’ve had similar troubles in the past, and it can be traumatic. Prayer for those who’re suffering, especially those who’ve lost loved ones.

Holy cow. Tim must be like SSB. He doesn’t allow trees near the house. That’s his ‘thang’. Always has been. I’ve always thought that he was a bit weird about it, but each time that we’ve had a serious windstorm, I’ve been glad of his foresight. Trees have come down all around us, but our house has never been damaged.
How high are these winds? Are wind events routine? We have a hurricane season, but it does not affect us directly…we just get the remnants of the storm. Tornadoes though, are more common through the late spring/early summer months.

Hey girls – Queensland can get cyclones (similar to your hurricanes Deb) from now on, but these storms aren’t cyclones, but have high winds and some hail. It’s rare they hit Brisbane (in the south-east of the state) like this so many times in a row. And windstorms aren’t usual either. There is a lot of unsettled stuff going on – which is bad for some, but means some real rain for others. Think wind speeds are around 100km/hr.
Thanks for echoing my thoughts guys. Back to your regularly scheduled bush nonsense soon!!

My thoughts are with you and yours and here’s hoping everyone pulls through. My heart goes out to those in the Ascot incident. I have friends in Australia for the next 2 years and hope all is well with them as well.
