Weather

Weather watch – I LIKE IT!

So last post was all kinda grey and gloomy… not like me, huh?
For the record Dash set no records (unlike his namesake he is no speedster – wrong genetics I am afraid!) but I was very proud that there were no major tears when no ribbons were won. And my face is not terribly windburnt (although I did hide out at the hairdressers for a while!) although the blessed cough is staying the distance. That said, I was in much better form on the journey home from town and snapped the pics here from the driver’s window of the Prado, as two exhausted kids slumbered in back seat. A little more cheery than the last image I took of this tree, no?

And then, I arrived back at Granite Glen and checked out the comments on my Weather Watch post. I was delighted. Everybody got into the idea, and shared their weather outlook with me… and despite the seeming mundanity (is that even a word? If not, it should be!) of it, I LOVED reading about what the temperature and humidity in your neck of the woods was like.

I am not sure why. Perhaps it’s my country roots, which sees the first line of conversation almost ALWAYS centre about the weather. We had an old neighbour who always greeted us with the line: “Funny weather, hey?” and his wife would always meet the complaints about lack of rain with the upbeat response: “Good drying weather though“. Cracked me up – like getting the laundry dry is EVER an issue out here. As dry as her sense of humour, I suspect.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading that Nevada is experiencing hot, firey weather, and Alberta is balmy, and Arkansas is humid and stormy, and Tuscon is sunny, and Kansas is recovering from a heatwave, but that Melbourne is chilly and Adelaide is bit frosty too and Brisbane even required it’s residents to wear a coat (shocking). And let’s not forget that ‘Hotlanta’ is too warm for Mom L… but we have known that for a while! (Hello Nancy! Hope the packing is going well… for the move to the much-cooler IOWA).

Did anyone else get a kick from these comments?

Or am I the only weather freak out there?

It really brings home to me the extremely diverse climates in which we all live, and the truly enormous geographical net-of-interest over which this little black blog has managed to cast itself. I feel humbled and excited by it all. The cows really couldn’t care less, as long as they can find some shelter amongst the timber on a frosty night, but I am thinking seriously about making it a world-wide weekly check-in at my blog.

BB’s Weather Watch.

What do you think?

I've been on vacation w/ my kiddos for the last 6 weeks so I'm trying to catch up. Love the idea for the weekly weather bits. I think it's pretty fun to see what's up where as well. I'm in the extreme southern part of Arizona, USA & my weather is totally unlike most of Az. Plus when Hubby was in the USAF we lived all over the world! It's pretty sweet to find out what's up where.

Good morning to ya! The downside of packing to move is that I've been waking up wayyy earlier than normal, then can't go back to sleep because I start thinking of all the things I haven't finished. This is it. Have to finish today. My belongings, including computer, go on a truck sometime tomorrow. I'll still be here another 10 days or so. Hope your cough gets better!!

Hugs to my friend down under…

    Nancy in Atlanta (for now)

I tried to comment yesterday, multiple times. I couldn't. Anyhow, I think the weather thing is a good idea. I truly did not know that it got that cold where you live.

Today it is rainy and coolish. Again. Good day to lay sod though.

I prefer the sunsets to the weather talk, but maybe that's because my FIL has usually already talked my ear off about the weather (or concrete or horses or the evil nature of Johnson grass). Occasionally I get a call from him or MIL to ask *exactly* how much rain we got and *precisely* how muddy the arena is and should they bother coming out to ride. I am the least likely person to ask about a)riding and b)the weather. Combine the two and I am completely at a loss for words. My descriptions of the conditions don't seem to satisfy. Sometimes I offer to look up the weather online, but my choice of weather.com (easy to remember) is not the *right* choice, and I am chided for not going to the government weather site (noaa.gov maybe?). But sunsets? I love sunsets. And I particularly love the first photo i this series. You can ask about the weather all you want, and I may even answer. Just don't count on me for a detailed and accurate report or to care too much:o) And give me plenty of sunsets!

Jenni – no worries darl. Sunsets pics shall abound!! I hear you on the measurement thing… I am very haphazard on the exact mm of rain that have fallen. They soon learn to get info elsewhere!!

Debby – I have trouble sometimes commenting too – just copy each comment in case, so I can paste it back in when it fails!! Are you planting things? Should you not be resting?

Nancy – will miss you while you are in transit!!! Travel safe.

Sue – I don't take much encouragement. I think I shall do it… should be quick and easy for everyone to note down and I'll pick some highlights out each week… maybe Wednesdays… mostly cause I am a sucker for alliteration: World Wednesday Weather Watch!!! Hah.
    🙂

I've always enjoyed "weather". Could be because my brother is an absolute weather freak (and has a blog devoted to weather).

Read in my paper today where the wind in our storm the other night averaged about 30mph throughout, gusting to 59mph early on! Sad part, though, was we only got a sprinkling of rain out of it. We're terribly dry in our area.

I'm not complaining, though. At least it's cooler again today!

Love the sunset and the frosty pics actually 🙂 and like sue2u2, i'm catching up, sorry!

I love cold frosty mornings when the trees looks like they've been frosted with icing. But the sunset pics…sigh, they make my heart happy. I'm actually a cold girl so the past week in Utah has been a bit hard to handle (why do i live in the desert?). VERY hot. 90+ today in Park City, which is way up in the mtns and never gets that hot. I know, sorry Mom L, that is nothing compared to hotlanta. It's so nice to ready your blog BB and see the beautiful, frosty weather. And i'm all for random weather checks. It really is fun to connect with so many different people all over this great big world!

Oh and i'm from a small farming town so every conversation is about weather. During the summer every prayer at church asks for rain…it's all about the weather. And i'm a freak about it too, i check the radar everyday and see what it's doing all over the place. Love it!

Well, in the Dakotas, we try to keep the peace so rather than talk about politics and religion, we just stick to the weather.

We have a saying, if you don't like the weather here, just wait about 5 minutes, it will change. We are mostly farmers or children of farmers, or children of merchants to sell products to farms, so the weather always has played an incredibly huge part of our lives.

I love to know what is happening in other parts of the world. So thanks for the idea, BB!
