Monotones and My Girl
One of my favourite bloggers is holding a little contest on her blog at the moment. It’s calling for black-and-white images from bloggy photographers, and while I don’t tend to do the ‘who has the best photo’ thing too often (I really don’t think my shots are technically up for it) I entered one image I had taken of my girl on a swing in our back yard.
.
Because I like the movement and the bokeh and the sharpness and the anonymity of it.
To most people, it could be any little blonde girl.
Any little girl flying high in a swing in any backyard.
But it’s not.
I know those untamed curls.
And that loose grip that speaks my girl’s confidence and joy of heights.
And the hand-me-down t-shirt from her big brother.
Every pixel of this image is familiar to me.
Perhaps that’s why it speaks to me so?
If I wasn’t being technical (and let’s face it, that’s pretty much all the time) then I’d choose this image. There is no missing the toe-curling joy here. Or the smile of her proud Daddy in the background. There is no other little blonde girl that this could possibly be.
This pic makes my heart sing. Pure and simple.
.
Actually, it might be the little person being photographed that has that effect on me.
She’s stubborn, diminutive, sparkly, feisty, loving, sweet, fiercely loyal and …
I love you more than words (or pictures) can say.

Ohhh, frig. One more beautiful than the next and I don't care the order. But yes, I'm partial to dad there in the background and that mouth of joy! Beautiful you, beautiful she.

I vividly remember when you first posted those untamed curls in the swing. It is a winner. I think it speaks to anyone who cares at all for children and life. The second one says JOY and love. Another one I would add to that set is the dark haired baby cuddled on her momma's shoulder cropped tight around the baby and the mother's eyes. I am greatful to know your "Little Black Blog" and to have the opportunity to see your work and your world.
Okay that is a sincere comment, but comes off pretty gushy. I'm trying to not be distracted by that set of male abs and the bull butts that keep flashing at me from your "scenes from my world" sidebar. Hehe. Please spread the news when Jeanie in Paradise has her baby.

I remember that day 5 years ago, when that beautiful (but very uncurly) blondie came into our life.
