All ears…
I don’t get out in the paddock as much as I would like to – something about laundry and meetings and blogs and housework and other such nonsense. But in the last two days, I have. (Which would explain why it’s been a tad quiet on the Bush Babe blog front).
Some stuff has been going on out there that I have been missing… and it has something to do with a male known as Ira Hayes (honestly, click the link and check out the dude at the end of that post, and you’ll feel like you REALLY know what’s going on).
There are lots and lots of little things with BIG ears in our breeder paddocks…
Black ears…
You have to keep your eyes peeled when you drive around – these two and three-day old calves are pretty tricky to find when they lie down in the long dry grass…
Which they do a lot (they are babies after all) …
…except when they are frolicking, tails aloft like furry little flags.
Of course, a good Mother is never too far away…
And as soon as a strange being shows up and begins stalking them around the paddock…
…they nestle in nice and close to Mama for reassurance…
And maybe an unscheduled snack…
Of course, there is always a small danger with that particular course of action:
Mum might decide it’s bath-time too…
Is it just me, or is this calf channeling Dash when I spit on my finger to remove the smear of breakfast Vegemite?
Heh.
(Do you think I spend too much time on my own? When I start making up cow conversations? Do I want to know the answer? Possibly not!)
What about you?
Is it newborn animal time at your place?
Any new additions to your household that has you imagining animal conversations?

Awwww…. I love little calves! There’s a great Frost poem about this called “The Pasture”.

Our cows will hide their babies in the brush to keep them safe while they graze. It amazes me how still the calves lie there…almost impossible to see!
Nothing new in our pasture at the moment.

Oh, I do live the floppy eared babies! Frolicking babies of all kinds make me smile all the way across my face. And everyone knows that momspit is the universal facial cleanser.
As for making up conversations… Love it. Captions on animal photos are just fun.

Well, aren’t you just the luckiest person…you’ve got puppies to pet, and calves to cuddle. Plus your own wee ones are just adorable. Here? Yeah. I haven’t got a newborn anything. I can only live vicariously. Take more pictures. :^D

All of our babies in these parts are growing up. Not that I had any. But winter is coming soon, animals are fattening up and getting ready to grow their warm fur in preparation for the cold months ahead.
Oh bother. I really didn’t want to think about that. I think I’ll just enjoy my warm day!

Sweet post. Love your very healthy, sleek, glossy looking cattle. (I suspect you harboring a cattle spa somewhere in the distance off camera. That’s really what’s going on a Granite Glenn, isn’t it?!!
