Homecoming Queen…
I looked back over the last couple of posts and realised it looks a little Dash-centric. And I would hate to be accused of having some kind of bias with my offspring… and while the world knows that Dash is always my King of Hearts, my daughter is the ultimate Homecoming Queen.
Now to be quite honest, I don’t really understand the American version of Homecoming Queen – it’s the most popular Highschool chick, right? Well, I don’t really mean that (although I am sure she’ll have those dimples working overtime when it comes to high school). My daughter doesn’t really care too much about ‘popular’. She’s her own little person, through and through. An ‘old soul’ who surveys the world through 30-year-old eyes rather than the five-year-old ones she owns.
She is absolutely and utterly determined.
Just ask anyone who has ever tried to get vegetables (or meat) into her. She is unswayed by ANYTHING going on around her – and that includes other kids. It’s amazing how she ends up being a little ringleader, without seeming to really try. Experiments in getting her to eat better generally end in some other kids beginning to refuse food they were perfectly happy with before meeting my daughter. I guess eventually everyone goes: Well, despite the fact that 99% of the population is doing A, Violet seems SO SURE about B, that perhaps we should try that too?
Lord help us if she ever gets into politics.
That said, she is all heart. She adores her big brother, and will physically attack anyone who might look to be rough with him. Seriously.
(And she can now crack a whip, so keep it in mind!)
She loves her environment here at Granite Glen, and she doesn’t like change – while Dash can remember our ‘city home’ Violet cannot, and her whole world is right here…
That enormous reservoir of determination is a marvellous asset (when used for good instead of evil).
Like riding – oh how she LOVES to ride.
The girl has confidence and enthusiasm to burn.
We are desperately looking around for a good horse for her, as she has almost completely worn her 30-something-year-old steed right out. (Altogether now: Poor Old Lacey!)
She loves mustering the most, and is heartbroken when she finds out some is happening without her assistance. (She makes her Pagi – my Dad – VERY proud in this department.)
She knows exactly what she likes:
– she likes horses
– she likes mustering
– she likes pink and purple
– she likes family
– she likes having Mummy at home (where she belongs)
– she likes Daddy to ‘read her stories
and she likes hugs. But only from people she knows…
This child/old soul messes with my heart every single day of her life.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way…

My daughter has a son and daughter, that girl is a real leader. Even her teacher says when she goes out of the room she feels like Becky is in charge and things will be fine for a minute or two. We have to remind Becky that she is not the mother of her brother and she should let Mom correct him. She is a very caring little girl and the first to wipe a tear for her friends if they cry. I know we are very blessed having this little girl and I can see you are truely blessed by Violet and Dash. Thanks for the cute pics and great blog.

Well Violet, I think you (and your mum) have your priorities very correctly in order! Your Dad is going to need that whip….you may be in the middle of nowhere in the land of Oz,but the young men will still be beating a path to your door 😉
