Indigenous Dancin’
I’m not going to wreck this series of images by talking too much through them… all you need to know is that they were taken on Saturday of a wonderful Aboriginal dance, enacted by members of our local Wakka Wakka tribe, to celebrate the opening of the new RM Williams Learning Centre.
All I know for sure is that there are definitely depictions of emus in the dance… and that (even though the dancers were mostly facing towards the main stage and I was behind their ‘dance floor’) I was transfixed throughout.
I wish I could have had the digeridoo sounds in the background of this to give you some of the atmosphere from the dance.
I DO know however that the sheer cuteness of the littlest dancer needs no help at all…
Awwwwww…

I could hear the digeridoo all the way across the Pacific. And I could see the emus in your pictures. You know it’s good music when the little ones can’t sit still and before long are right in there with their own steps. So cool!

How very very cool!
I read a book called Mutant Message Down Under, about a woman’s journey with Aborigines. It was one of the best books I ever read. Much respect for those people. They have a ton of knowledge.

Huh, Mikey. I read the same book. What a coincidence that is. *wink*
Fascinating pictures. We went to a Pow-wow up in the Seneca Nation, where all the different tribes get together. It was fascinating to watch all the dancing. There was one man that did a dance and you could see ‘it’ right away. He was an eagle, and the way that he cocked his head alertly and ‘soared’, I have to say that it almost felt as if he had become the eagle. It was cool.

Great photos. There’s something eerie and haunting about the digeridoo. The sound lingers in your mind long after…
