Damp and delicious
Tis rainin’ in them thar hills… and also in these ‘ere ‘ills! The weather, while amazing for our grass and water supplies, HAS made our one weekend task – to get a few cattle off the property – quite tricky. And long-winded.
If you happened to volunteer for the the mustering team charged with the task of getting cattle to our wet-weather-accessible yards yesterday, you’ll know what I mean. If you were THOSE people (and yes, one did happen to be ME) then the current weather conditions are kinda damp and uncomfortable and cold. You will have to forgive me – the camera got left in the ute, as I was riding a horse I had never ridden before, it was very wet. (Water and cameras, and cameras and being dumped in the dirt are not good combinations!)
A couple of hours riding in the rain – with kids- loses it’s appeal after the rain soaks through your not-quite-waterproof jacket and the whinging about wet jeans starts on in earnest. At least we (Dash, Violet and I) got to head home once they were in the yards – not Mr Incredible and my brother (Pig) though. They then had to truck them from THOSE yards to some yards closer to the house to save the trucky with the Big Serious Rig from having to drive on our paddock roads. My husband arrived home yesterday afternoon – to wash out a very poo-y truck – three hours after us.
Not complainin’ mind you, just sayin’. A hot bath was well earned by all here yesterday!
The rain continued to drizzle steadily overnight – fabulous and wonderful except if you were the poor truckie trying to get a semi with a B-double into our place today to pick up the cattle. He ended up reversing off the dirt road and we ended up trucking our waiting cattle out in our smaller trucks to the semi parked safely (once more) on the bitumen. (Don’t even ask about the cleaned-out truck!)
So a job that should have taken two hours yesterday and an hour this morning, took most of yesterday and almost til midday today. And still Hughie is sending it down. But NOW… now we are enjoying.
A bit like these cattle of our neighbours’.
Lying contentedly, with full bellies, just watching it drizzle around us.
(Interesting aside: Violet’s pick of DVD today was Evan Almighty. Heh.)
So… ’tis wet and wonderful here.
And to top it off. our Swiss neighbour has invited us for Cheese Fondue tonight (mmmmmm).
So… what’s in the forecast (and on your dinner table) tonight?

Your cows (bulls) always look so peaceful. But, I guess that’s how a contented bovine is supposed to look!

I get you. Rain is so totally welcome in Queensland. After all those years of dry. Bring it on. But, being able to order a few dry days every now and then would be good too, by the sounds of it. Riding in wet jeans sounds yeuch!

Nothing like a wet butt and slippery reins and kids and trucks and mud and and and….we live for it hey?! Oh, if you ever get that job in Winter…Thomas Cook have water AND wind proof jeans – quite awesome they are and made for these occassions but prob more for winter – very toasty! Nah…not paid by TC but got caught a couple of times myself this year riding in cold, wet winter weather and THERE HAD TO BE SOMETHING MORE COMFORTABLE THAN WET JEANS to ride in all day!!

Weather forecast here is also damp and drizzly. Wonderful! (by the way, I discovered a wonderful weather website.. http://www.yr.no).
Dinner tonight will be fresh kingklip fillets with roast sweet potatoes and probably a salad.
