A moment in the madness

This peaceful interlude is brought to you by Bush Babe – the woman who regularly bites off more than she can chew…

I am so tired I can barely sit upright on the chair at this computer… I actually tried to write this last night but I was so weary my eyes kept leaking and closing.  Nothing worse than leaky-won’t-stay open eyes.  Makes it very tricky to blog, that’s for certain.

We have two extras staying here with us this week – a couple of 10-year-old 11-year-old(!) nieces who adore horse-riding and who are helping us out as we vaccinate all our calves.  I think that after day 4, they are beginning to realise that volunteering to help us entails a LOT more than a casual Sunday ride.  We usually muster early-ish (about 7.30am – it would be earlier but I just CANNOT get the kids dressed, fed and organised earlier than 7am) and try to finish about 4pm.  But things happen, and yesterday we finished at 6.30pm.  Talk about tired kids.  Extra tired with that essential end-of-mustering-day swim.  And there is a super tired caterer/musterer/mother/aunt somewhere around here too. Taking packed meals out each day for six people is quite taxing on my somewhat limited planning skills.

We are more than halfway through the job (is that a light I spy, at the end of the tunnel?).  I have SOOOOO many pics to show you.  The days have been amazing – amazingly green with our wet start to summer, amazingly steamy and hot (more storms soon please to relieve it!) and amazingly long.  And filled with amazingly cute calves too… Also amazing is that I am still able to walk, with riding for hours every day NOT something I am match-fit for!

I have also sent out (wait for it) over 170 calendars in the last few weeks.  Australia Post should love me… I’m not sure why I do these things to myself, but I have to say that this year the most AMAZING people have come out of the woodwork to order and give me precious feedback.  I feel giddy that these people part with their hard-earned to put some of my images on their walls to look at for the next 12 months.  I shall share some little snippets of where the 2011 BB calendar has ended up soon.

If you have purchased one (or more) and would like to share where they will be hanging, I’d love to hear.  If you are waiting on your order, don’t hesitate to let me know and I’ll check on its progress…

I hope these sentences make sense.  I am sorry, but proof-reading is out.  My eyes are starting to do that leaky thing again…

Before I crash and burn, I wonder: are holidays are your place a time to speed up, or slow down? I hope your world is starting to slow and savour – as I hope mine will soon.

🙂

PS The pic is of a stream about an hour’s drive from here – we drove over it with a stock agent friend of ours .He was nice enough to offer to stop mid-stream to let me take a photo.  (I told Mr Incredible to please take notice.) Thanks Macca!

And I thought it was crazy to have Christmas in the winter! Even more insane to match it up with summer. At least here the cattle are just standing around in sheds waiting to have their babies. No fields to tend. Most harvest gathered. Hope there will be some breaks in the action for a feet-up-something bubbley for you soon.

hmmmm, we haven’t started calf marking yet…possibly next week, the week before Xmas! Nothing like a busy week to get you in the mood for some Christmas cheer! Back in past years when we used to brand – it was a Christmas tradition to brand at Christmas time/Boxing day – who started that one I don’t know!

Calendars – a handful of my closest special friends have now and will soon have their Bush Calendars – they love them! I just wish your calendar come with a magic spell to slow these years down a bit heh?! 🙂

I’m glad you’re coming to the light at the end of your tunnel. Y’all need a live-in masseur this time of year, huh?
Christmas, unfortunately, becomes a time to speed up at our house. If we’d stop giving presents (never happen), we’d get to slow down a bit. Maybe when the kids are grown?
