The things that made you smile…

The past 24 hours have brought (wait for it) SUNSHINE after a couple of weeks of water…

And as the flood waters begin to subside, I decided to make a list of some of the things that make me smile about the recent deluge…

(because the OTHER list is on it’s way too)

This batch from the ski area near the dam wall.

A couple of shots for perspective from BEFORE the flood…

Above is on the road to the boat ramp (behind us) and below is overlooking the water (boat ramp just off to the right I think) when it was at about 10% capacity.

Below is Violet checking out the same road two day ago, which you can just glimpse at the top of the above image.

When the dam is over 100% and many familiar landmarks have vanished…

Handy to know the general direction of the boat ramp!

And how about this view?

Okay, you might have to look closer at this one…

Anyone for a picnic?

flood_0136

Oh dear… I was so tempted to try and talk Mr I and kids into sitting at the table with the pikelets!

I don’t like my chances, but it would have been a great shot!

I love the shiny washed trunks of the gum trees by the new lakes of water…

And I love this shot of my hubby surveying the incredible new views (pun totally intended!)…

I love that everywhere you walk, you squelch…

The water is STILL running out of the hills, despite 24 hours of sunshine!

And when I get all whingy about things over the next couple of weeks, you are totally allowed to send me right back to this post…

Deal?

    Hi Bush Babe,

Thank you so much for the posts on the flooding in your part of the world….it’s been most interesting following your informative updates…WOW and to think some ‘expert’ said not so long ago that it wouldn’t rain again!!!
We’ve had our fair share here on the Gold Coast, it’s so good to see the sun shining again but they say there’s more rain to come….

I guess you are now looking forward to a great season with lush pastures and fat cattle.

Oh, and Mr. Incredible certainly lived up to his name when he removed that tree from the bridge…..what a guy!!!!

Sure is a bloody mess, isn’t it? Thank God you are in the cattle business and not into crops. That would be virtual total devastation. I noticed in the papers that the cost is already in the $billions and going up.
Yep, a picnic in that park would be fun – the slippery, slimy “Joe Blakes” would enjoy your company!!! ha ha. I think that might hasten a quick retreat.
Still as it appears your livestock are all above the water-line, so you should when the water subsides (????), have in the long run a good year.
Watch out for the “Joe Blakes” around your homestead, that’s the part I feared most.
    Great reporting and photos.

I’m still in awe of the scope of the flooding. Violet looks awestruck, as well.

Hope 2011 brings you great, happy times!

Hi, my name is Bonnie! I just found your blog through the comments on The Pioneer Woman. I was looking around on your blog a little…wow, what a flood! So, is this normally the rainy season for Australia? I love connecting with people across the world…it’s always so interesting to see how people live, what’s the same, and what’s different. I live in Southwestern Pennsylvania, USA. We are having some odd weather real for the past couple of days…54 degrees Farenheit..some sun yesterday and now tons of rain today. That is extremely odd for the end of December/beginning of January..it should be around 15 degrees Farenheit for us. Just last week it was in the low 20’s!
