Perspective
You might be aware, the recent floods knocked us around in our beef cattle operation here at Granite Glen…
The vast majority of the roads we use to work our country and our cattle are either completely impassable or four-wheel-drive territory only.
Which is not really handy when you need to transport cattle and horses around it – and I think it’s clear from these images that we cannot even contemplate using a truck on these roads for some time. We have bogged horses here in the past fortnight for heaven’s sake. I nearly went down on one again today.
To fix our shocking roads, we need A) heavy machinery and B) gravel. And to get B) we need A) – and while the roads are damp and sinking, we cannot get A). Therefore both are out of the question in the foreseeable future. No A) and No B) – you see?
So everything has ground to a halt…
… except for working those paddocks we can ride to from the house…
so it’s really best I focus on them… the view is SO much better…
Don’t you think?

Those roads are bad! Hope you can get them fixed sooner rather than later. They’re such vital links. Love the shots of three horses and their riders. It really says bush country to me.

Oh, those roads. Oh.
But the sun is shining, and that makes me optimistic. I hope that it makes you folks optimistic as well.

Debby’s right… the sun is shining and that’s a positive thing.
Time. In time.

Surely if you drive FAST enough you won’t feel the bumps?
No?
I hope you get a load of gravel soon (with possibly very large rocks for the first few loads) to start sorting out the speed bumps – or anti-bumps.

That sure is a mess of the roads. Hope you can have it fixed in reasonable time??
The countryside certainly looks lush now, so the cattle will be pretty happy.
Very informative blog BB – well done.

I will quit complaining about the pot holes now that are popping up on my city streets!! Eh gad, what a mess eh?

Don’t envy whoever ends up manning the machine/s to fix all those washouts. Know full-well how much time, diesel, grease and noise it will take to get all that back and sorted. Yuk. Good luck with the mustering – might have to step back an era or two and dig out the swag and pack horse and do some overnight camp-outs to complete the branding?!! Ok, you can hit me over the head now for suggesting such a darn stupid, more-work-than-it’s-worth idea! 🙂

Don’t worry… it has occurred and we are doing a LOT of riding at the moment. However school has also started back which makes sleep-outs kinda out of the question. The wild pigs don’t make the proposition too enticing either!

Your photos are amazing and beautiful and horrible all at the same time. My heart goes out to all of you in Australia.

BB, that is amazing to see the devastation the flood have had. I can only imagine what it has done in more populated areas.
And, wild pigs? You guys have everything there!
