Not all tawk…
I took more than 450 photos today.
I know.
(And if you have just arrived here, please know that I NEVER exaggerate. Especially when it comes to photos.)
My little portable hard drive is groaning already. I don’t have time to go through every shot each night, but I do randomly select a couple that look interesting to share here for those choosing to take this trip vicariously with us. Lord knows what I am going to do with the rest of them. A giant coffee table book of New York, by a random Australian. Should sell well…
We just finished a night-time tour on a New York bus – fascinating and gorgeous, but full on in a way that ONLY New York can be. We started counting the amount of times the guide told us (in his best Brooklyn accent) that something was ‘The First…’, ‘The Biggest…’, ‘The Only…’ IN THE WORLD.
We lost count at 22. I had fun imagining what Jeremy Clarkson might have done with it all… after all, it is his catch-cry.
An-ee-way… a quick selection of shots from today.
IT SNOWED!
And my kids went a little NUTS. It was IMPOSSIBLE to keep them out of it. There were snowball fights the entire day.
To all passers by who were caught in the cross-fire: my apologies.
Honestly, you’d think this pair would have SOME respect for the monument underneath which they were holding World War Three…
THE STATUE OF LIBERTY.
Oh how I loved meeting her… as (really) did the whole family. One of Dash’s big anticipations of the trip was seeing ‘Lady Liberty’. I totally welled up reading about her beginnings, her journey, and what she means to Americans. To me, this side of the US is what makes it great. Passion and patriotism. True grit and lofty aspirations. Inspiring stuff.
Of course, Dash’s OTHER great dream was seeing…
WHERE KING KONG FELL FROM…
How amazing was this view? The Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) gave us an awesome look at the Empire State Building despite the snow clouds.
And the kids main request for tomorrow, now that it has snowed (right on cue)?
A proper visit to Central Park…
I wonder why…
😉
(Look at all that WHITE!)

Wonderful photos! I’ve been in NYC many times, but I don’t remember ever going to see Lady Liberty! Maybe when I was a kid – but oh, the wonderful sights!!!

Great photos BB. You sure are having a wonderful time. Your children will be full of stories when you return.
Now don’t forget, if you do have the time, try to visit Washington, DC, Arlington just outside, and even the area of Gettysburg – you will be astonished!
Oh yes, if at Washington, visit the Australian Embassy and see what Ambassador Kim Beasley can suggest??????
Have continued fun and enjoy albeit very cold – great to see that your children have seen clean like snow.
Cheers

What great timing for the snow! While you were sightseeing, I was about 90 minutes away (N.E.), shoveling about 10 inches of the stuff. Sounds fair to me!!!

Did the kiddos find that the cold was less cold with snow? Snow is a great thing isn’t it. Here in the valley of the great Ohio River we only got rain- dang.

Many many years ago my older daughter lived in NYC. So the younger teens and I went for a week long visit. We went on the grand tours and I took hundreds of pictures. Until I thought I should be running out of film…. and realized I had not loaded my camera.!!!!!!! I brought home someone else’s negatives and passed them off as my own. lol

Thanks for all good wishes y’all! We are travelling a lot and I am finding it super hard to get back and comment – actually finding it super hard to even blog at the moment. I AM reading your comments (and smiling a lot) and will respond better when we are finally still again.
