Home with horses
Just arrived home from a couple of days away – showing cattle and visiting one of the major regional towns.
I love Toowoomba, it’s so pretty. But with so much travelling lately, I love being home more.
And I love that we talked the kids into getting a little something from Horseland instead of a showbag, and instead of a toy.
They chose grooming kits (on special for $10!) each and are currently absorbed in brushing and combing Pickles and Sandy.
As a confirmed pony-mad kid myself, I think there is nothing better for kids than some quality time spent with an equine pal.
And for the icing on the cake – this pic made PW’s Group 4 in her amazing Horse-themed Photography Assignment.
Taken as Violet stopped by the house after arriving back from a ride with her dad in the house paddock last week.
I’m a lucky, lucky gal to have managed to get this one noticed.
So I have gone a bit nuts and entered these two images as well…
And if I can sneak it in under the deadline, maybe this one too?
Take some time and browse the entries – they are amazing.
Back into the US Trip/FairyBlogTale shortly…
🙂

From what I’ve seen, kids who are horse crazy (that’s what we call them here), are practical and sensible down to earth kids. I suppose that it’s wrong to paint them all with the same brush, that there are exceptions to every rule, but the fact is, I think when a kid learns to love something more than him(her)self, it’s the first step to living a good and generous life.
I see so many spoiled, spoiled children. Yours really were so very good, with very nice manners.

Oh, I meant to ask…are things back to normal in Toowoomba? And your neck of the woods, for that matter? Or is there a lot of flood cleanup left to do? We need to hear a story or two of Queensland’s return to normal.

Oh I bet you like being back home. There is no place like home just like Dorthy said. Good thing for your kids having a horse keeps them grounded and caring.
Love your photos you are truly gifted. Good luck. B

I’m so glad you entered in the PW horse photos. I love the contrast of those blonde eyelashes over the dark eye. Such a sweet face that Sandy. Hoping you come out on top in the competition. Every one of those photos is a winner. For some reason I’m kind of partial to the big velvet lips.
Violet and Dash are SO very fortunate to have equine companions and a home where they can run and breathe.

Do Violet and Dash belong to a pony club?
I loved my experiences in the 1950s at the Moree Pony Club week. It was held at the Moree Show Grounds and we all slept in the various pavilions – the boys in the “bit smelly” sheep pavilion on straw matresses! Baths were taken at the artesian swimming pool. Great fun days and we all got a good grooming in horseman/womanship. The horses always came first, you came second!
Cheers

Bush Babe
Yes they do Colin – not that we have been able to attend for quite a while!

Love the photos and, yes, what a great bargain on grooming kits!
I agree with Debby – kjids who are horse mad care more for animals (and others) than thinking about themselves most of the time 😉
