Bugs get busy!
We received some rain last night… lovely soaking rain – almost an inch in the old money (25mm for you young ‘uns).
And at this time of the year, when it rains…
You will find that a particular kind of bush-dwelling bug comes out of the woodwork.
We call it: The Fire Bug.
Now if you know my family at all, you will know that I am related to a couple of renown Fire Bugs. And you will already be quite aware that Fire Bugs are (in fact) are a bit like Were Wolves. They can walk around quite normal and undetected for months on end. And then, when the weather warms up slightly and the first rains fall… they transform into flame-throwing demons. (Actually, I wonder if I am mixing up Were Wolves and Transformers? Ah well, SOME kind of boy-movie theme anyway!).
Of course, the burning is a deliberate management tool, with the fresh new grass quickly erupting through the cool-burnt countryside. (Not to be confused with out-of-control wildfires which can do awful damage).
And I have to admit, that the Shutter Bug (that’d be me) kinda adores some of the spin-off benefits from the late-Winter activity.
Namely…
Groovy-hued skies…
And fantastic trails of flame across almost-dark scenes…
Dash thought this looks like ‘rivers of lava’.
His father thinks is has an ‘overactive imagination’. I think he is DEFINITELY my child.
Dancing flames…
Trickling along the roadsides…
But the best bit was not so much the fire on the ground…
As the fire in the sky.*
Hope something wonderful and spectacular happened at your place today.
What kind of Bug is busy in your world?

I agree with Dash – that one shot reminds me of a lava flow, too.
We were over in the Delta (AR, not MS) yesterday and I was amazed, as always, by the size of the dragonflies over there!! Three times the size of ours!
btw…I’m very much in favor of controlled burns. More places in the US should do them and there would be fewer damaging wildfires.

Should point out that shots taken in neighbours paddocks… our resident Fire Bugs will ‘transform’ tomorrow!

I like real colors. Ah red skies at night; sailors …..

Definitely lava flow, not overactive imagination.
And some of these pics are mighty “calender-worthy”.
