Missing (in action)
My family is two states away from me at the moment.
It’s all good. Ish.
It’s the kids’ school camp – a Canberra/snow trip of ambitious proportions. Our little group of families who make up the one-teacher school’s P&C have fund-raised our little hearts out to send them off for brand new experiences (for many of them) involving planes and snow and skiing. Much excitement to be had by so many who have never experienced either. I made the tough decision to stay behind to keep things rolling along here, and peeled Mr Incredible away from the work here to help monitor the southern fun. After all, he is MUCH more use on slippery surfaces than me – lame old duck that I am!
(For newcomers to this blog, I have a very wrecked knee – after three complete reconstructions the darned thing is still gammy. I am officially 107.)
I have some very funny stories about our first (and last) trip snow-skiing – in Austria about 14 years ago. Even before the knee surgeon I was no snow bunny. Not at all. Remind me to share sometime…
Anyway, for the next few days I am promising myself to have that much-needed spring clean of our ENORMOUS old house. No boys calling in for smoko, no kids being picked up, dropped off, no hordes to cook for… sounds kinda heavenly, and is probably something that most busy mums (me included) yearn for but the fact is it’s making me kinda sad.
*sigh*
I miss those silhouettes.
Of course, I have lots of reminders to make me grin too.
Like this image, taken the day before we drove to Brisbane to catch the plane…
Today, Dash will be wearing this hand-me-down red ski suit for real. In SNOW. It will look much more at home there, I am sure. The horses all looked very startled as he belted down to the river in this (very red) ensemble!
And Violet will be all kitted up in a hot pink overall and matching ski gloves and attacking the slopes with her trademark gusto.
Of course, both kids left me lots of sweet reminders of them all through the house too.
Mostly abandoned toys and dirty clothes.
Wish me luck (and lots of house-cleaning vibes).
🙂

They left all the souvenirs because they wanted to make sure you would think about them several times a day! And you’ll go nuts missing all 3 of them! Better go out and kiss a cow – my Mom’s favorite story was kissing the cow she milked as a kid. Stay sane!!!

LOL Nancy – Bay Lulic might get a smooch later on today! In the meantime, these cupboards just don’t seem to be cleaning themselves…

Awww, I just love coming here to see what you are up to and what images you have to share. We aim to have ourselves a big old farm with a big old house and somewhere to house our beautiful goats. Have fun Spring cleaning, and make sure you crank up the good music while you do it 🙂

I’m sure you’ll have a fun-filled time attacking the dust bunnies, whipping through the washing like a whirlwind and don’t forget to put your feet up with a well earned cuppa!

Hope Mr. I has a camera and takes photos. Bet you get a lot done without the crowd, even though things must be mighty quiet.

sounds nice, and I bet you are having simple dinners like spag on toast or boiled eggs for meals, thus giving you more cleaning/gardening/reading/movie time. Get on top of that washing ’cause they’ll be home soon enough with mountains! Like when my son gets home from boarding school and there’s at least 6 loads to get through!

If you are anything like me, you’ll cry when you say goodbye. Then you’ll savor your solitude. And finally, you’ll welcome them back with arms wide open.
