Dust, mates and arrivals

It’s been a weird old day, today…

First, I spent the night without my kids or my hubby.  Great for uninterrupted computer time (you won’t have noticed it here for a change, but our creditors and accountant will appreciate the efforts I hope) but kinda quiet and … well, quiet.  Hubs is off watching the First Test (a tradition with his mates which I fully support) and kids were having a sleepover at school (apparently one-teacher school teachers are gluttons for punishment).

THEN as I prepared for the day, our jackaroo decided to try out the bush medical system (jamming his hand somewhere it really shouldn’t have been) and he is now in hospital some three hours away recovering from tendon surgery.  Poor Lachy.  This drama required a fair bit of driving around by a number of people (my Dad and our neighbour Lila did far more than I) and generated many phone calls.   I also worried a lot.  Useful.

Then I was waiting for the schoolbus this afternoon and contemplating how strange and unsettling the day had been…

And (being slightly melancholy) I started in on the dust.

Have I mentioned how I battle (mostly in my mind and at various carwashes around the country) with the red dust festooned on our roads out here?

Seriously people …

EVERY LITTLE CREVICE…

Red silted to the hilt.

I grabbed hold of myself (figuratively) and distracted my dark (reddish) thoughts with this…

The latest Down Under magazine…

My favourite bus-stop waiting reading material.

And LOOKEE what I found on page 72…

My own little bush calendar…

I heart my girls Tara and Sally at The DownUnder magazine.  And I recalled how the Queensland Country Life, had also run a fantastic half-page ad alerting readers to the present-potential of the 2012 BB Calendar.  I began to focus on how lucky I am to have found such great support for this project …

You may be aware that I have been having some issues behind-the-scenes getting the calendar ready … frustrating both me and those waiting their delivery.

But right on queue, following me (with my two very exhausted, sleepovered-out kids) back to the house  was…

Tthe CALENDAR DELIVERY MAN…

The poor guy had to swallow my red dust for a bit, then handle an over-enthusiastic Great Dane, two ratty kids, (I did ply him with fresh-brewed coffee to ease the chaos) then made sure he had enough fuel to make it back to civilisation!

But I have to say – that after waiting for so long – that I am DELIGHTED with the quality of the final product.

I didn’t get photos immediately of the fresh calendars – with no blokes to help I had to feed no less than 22 animals (then three humans) – it was a couple of hours before I could properly unpack and admire and give those suckers the Nikon treatment.  I discovered once again that fluorescent lights and I just don’t work well together…

But you get the gist…

And YES… chardonnay and chocolate just HAPPENED to be the best (and handiest) props to hold my calendars in position…

WHY DO YOU ASK?

Guess who will be preparing and packing calendars for posting, late into the night tonight.  I plan to have a processing system set up on my bed (with no husband around to complain about the activity).

I might take those props with me (just in case).

🙂

Hi BB. Congratulations on a wonderful production. Looks fantastic. I shall have to treat myself to a calendar next year. Hope that Lachy will be ok. And you yourself stay as loving, strong and focused as you are. Keep that camera handy and stomp on any dark thoughts.

    Hi BB

Now back from “South of the Tweed”!!!!
Country side down there is pristine.
Cattle and sheep as fat as possible, almost to overbloated! Crops look great, dams full etc.
Cherry Capital, Young, well it does rain there, even though my mother tells me “ad nauseum” it doesn’t – 9 days in Young and 6 of those it rained, the non destructive, thankfully type. All they need now is not a heatwave to crack the cherries and “Bob’s, your uncle”.
One day the temp. got to 14c. and the accompanying South Pole winds ( my version) was like the wind chill factor of the US and Canada!
Looking forward to receiving the ordered calendars – one is being dispatched to Alberta, Canada. I think you might know whom?
Great reporting from the Granite Belt – hope, Mr Incredible enjoys the Aussie thrashing of the Kiwis – doesn’t look likely at present.
    Cheers
    Colin
