Summer is … storms and skis

With the extreme luxury of a river beside our house, thanks to the massive floods of January 2011, we get some pretty special views of our summer storms.

After many, many years of drought, where a scattered shower was the only respite from endless dust and crackling dry grass, we  all still pinch ourselves when we drive over the hill to see this huge body of water.  It’s beauty has to be FELT to be appreciated.

And with a summer storm looming, the colours of the sky and water take on a turquoise life…

And what better way to soak it all in than to take a boat out… and a skiier.

Dash was MORE than keen… and annoyingly easy to ‘pop’ up out of the water.

(Any adult learning this art will attest how darned HARD it is to get up!)

My uncle has some great little skis that are joined to make it easier to keep those legs in the right position…

Methinks he’s enjoying this sport – that enormous grin is a bit of a giveaway, no?

Of course, all good things come to an end, including Dash’s dream ski run…

Bloomin’ wake!

(Of course it was bucketing down rain a few seconds later, so it was best we high-tailed it back to shore).

Dash is nagging us for another go though, and Santa DID bring him a wetsuit for Christmas… I foresee some more waterskiing in our very near future!

I have visitors arriving this afternoon and a big project getting underway tomorrow. I suspect the project – while mostly serious – might include some interludes of swimming and the occasional chardonnay.  It’s HOT and STEAMY here. (Low 30s celsius and around 55% humidity predicted most of the week).

So… what do your New Year activities include?

Anything planned to bring in 2012?

Will your weather affect your plans?

Over and out from Granite Glen.

See you in the New Year…

🙂

Yay for Dash! I learned to ski as a wee one, but haven’t been in years. They say you never forget…

We’ll bring in the new year as we have for many years now – playing games (and eating, of course) with some friends of ours. Supposed to be about 70F here tomorrow! That’s okay, I’m not complaining.

Happy 2012, BB and family and critters. Most especially to Bay Leaf, the wonder calf. I love Dash’s grin-it seldom gets that big–skiing will do it. Loved to water ski as an adolescent and young adult. What glorious fun he’s having being drug across the pond.

Wow – you sure have plenty of water up there, so conditions should be great for 2012!
Fantastic to think you have your OWN private skiing area and it does look log free ( at present), so is an excellent place to learn to ski.
OK young Dash – next time no joined skis!
I learnt to water ski in the reef protected lagoons off Finschhafen,PNG, but besides staying on, I was scared out of my wits that I might crash into a salt water crocodile or one of those deadly sea snakes! So I had the added bonus to stay upright from the fear factor!! ha ha.
Looks like a lot of fun for the start of 2012.
    Cheers

Look at those gorgeous long, strong legs! I can’t tell you how many times I fell over trying to get up on skis the first time in my teens. I had a very close personal relationship with the Indian River in Florida!!!

No plans for NYE, but my 2012 goal is to be back living on the East Coast, closer to family and friends, especially my little Granddude, Henry!

New Year’s Day, for me, will be at work, I’m afraid, and with the temp set to hit 41 on the day, I’m hoping for a really quiet day at the fire station, lol.

Happy new year to you and the family, BB.

    🙂
