Too fast
Sometimes life passes us by.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the day-to-day, the goals we have set ourselves, the ‘needs’ we perceive as foremost in our lives, that we miss the Big Stuff.
Sometimes we need to step outside our self-made vortex, to STOP and FEEL and APPRECIATE the gifts we are given…
Sometimes something awful happens that shocks us into doing just that.
Something awful happened last week. We lost a gorgeous man from our lives – my husband’s uncle (his late mother’s brother) whose vivacity and wit and gentle kindness never failed to lift us up. He was marvellous when our Dash faced his early health challenges – a great listener, and unfailingly delighted in our own family’s little achievements. He lifted us with every visit.
The world is poorer for his passing. And today his family will gather to celebrate the great joy he brought to us all. I won’t be there in person, but I will be there in spirit.
You were one-of-a-kind, Bruce.
And you should know you will be awfully, awfully missed.
But today I promise to focus on how lucky we were to have a tiny part of you.
And I will be smiling whenever I think of you…

Hi BB, I’m sorry that this is the post I’ve come onto to say hello and wish you all the best for 2012. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes losses like these to put things into perspective in other areas of our all too busy lives. So sorry for your and your husband’s loss. I’ve often taken comfort from the words that ‘death ends a life, not a relationship’, and I can see that you already feel blessed to have had Bruce in your lives.
I had to pass comment that I happen to know that beautiful young lady you call Boo. She is a delight.
I too hope that we may have the opportunity to meet this year, and I’ve no doubt we will. I’ve a feeling you’re going to be very, very busy during Beef Week though. Now that I know you won’t think me some crazy internet stalker if I walk up and introduce myself, I’ll do it at the next opportunity.
Here’s to a great year!
Please tell me it’s going to rain soon!

I’ve always felt that the true measure of a person’s worth is measured by the hole they leave in the lives of others when they are gone. From the empty spot in your own heart, I think this must have been a great man.
Big hugs for all of you.
