Love this Road…
This is a musical post – or it can be if you like. If your internet connection can handle it, scoot down to the clip below and get it rolling before you begin reading…

I spent much of today on the road. Not driving long distances, as I sometimes do. But taking a while to drive where I needed to be. Or getting vehicles to where THEY needed to be.
This is part of living on the land – sort of like a giant rubic cube, getting all the colours aligned/all the tractors where they need to be.
I got to drive one of these this morning…
The RED one.
The yellow one is my Dad’s domain… I am NO grader driver!!
It was actually the very first time I had ever driven the red tractor – it’s my husband’s pride and joy so I took it steady.
(There will be doubters amongst you, those who have been in a vehicle with me… so just HUSH you lot!).
Twas kinda fun (although I did give myself a couple of palpatations lining up the siderails of the grids – those things could be a TAD wider for us novice tractor drivers, y’know!).
And once I had safely gotten the tractor back to the shed at home, I whipped into some (non-tractor-grimy) town clothes for a quick trip to town for supplies.
And those clouds that had been threatening all morning FINALLY came good on their promise…
There is SOMETHING about wet gravel roads. They keep you on your toes, but they are kinda romantic at the same time…
I played THIS song REALLY loud.
I didn’t even know who sang it before I googled just now. Great song, Emerson Drive!
I love this feeling of freedom running through my veins
Been too long at the crossroads
waiting for the light to change
Even if it takes forever and I never find out where it goes
Heaven knows…
I love this road.

Please note, I will be holding a giveaway here shortly, to celebrate the magic milestone of Bush Babe receiving 200 Facebook ‘likes’. Thanks so much for sticking with this little bush blog through thick and thin. I’m not one to profess undying love to people I have never met… but it makes me a bit emotional when I look at all those wonderful faces in my sidebar (my Friends Connect and FB peeps).
And I just want to say THANKS. You lot make my day.

Our farm is smaller, and so is our tractor. Older, too. But I know how those beasts can be awfully BIG when you’re accustomed to the family-hauler. Congrats to you for making it home unscathed. Just so happens that a couple of days ago, hubby parked our “little” tractor alongside our Jeep, and my youngest looked out the window and exclaimed, “our tractor is really BIG, isn’t it, mom? I never noticed before!” (In case you want to know, we have a Jeep Grand Cherokee–almost the biggest Jeep–and an Allis Chalmers WD 45. We even have a front-end loader for it–the bucket is about the same size as a 55 gallon barrel cut in half. 😉 )

Ah – the wonder of the world through the eyes of a kid. Gorgeous!

Tee Hee! I have never wanted to learn how to drive the tractor as I can just imagine that I would be asked to do a few hours after teaching at school all day. I just say its too scary. I reversed the volvo into the tractor’s slasher once, it was hanging half in the air and I couldn’t see it, crunch it went! tailights flew over the front of the car! Nope I don’t like tractors!

Always makes me a wee bit nervous to be at the controls of the tractor. 😉
I love that shot of the single raindrop splatted against the glass.

That is perfect travelin’ music! Not much for lots and lots of country western music but that’s a winner. Congrats on reaching your own milestone on your (one of my very favorite) blog.
Bush Babe
Thanks Leenie – I don’t listen to country all the time, but it fits on this road!

I positively LOVE your red dirt roads. With the green grass, it’s such a striking contrast. People would pay to do what you’re doing 🙂 What a great life!!

Mikey that’s what my Dad used to say. I would say: WHERE ARE THEY? (Usually after the second week of mustering on my school holidays). LOL.

Those grid side-rails are awfully tippy when hit. Just sayin’.
