Weekend…
I haven’t ALWAYS been a country music fan.
While it’s true that I grew up in the bush and was force-fed an aural diet of Slim Dusty and Charlie Pride from a VERY early age, C&W has not always been my music of choice. I have adored (in no particular order) Van Morrison, Phil Collins, U2, Robbie Williams, Abba, Michael Jackson, Wham!, Pink and Queen. I held Annie Lennox up as a goddess with the purest voice I had ever heard.
But just over a decade ago, my brother talked me into seeing Garth Brooks in concert, and his ability to involve the crowd impressed me so much it remains one of my all-time favourite music experiences. (Of course we had stage-side seats and I still have the hatband he dropped when he jumped in with us, which may have added to the experience!)
And lately, I can feel the pendulum swing back the country way more and more. I saw Keith Urban last year and enjoyed his concert in Brisbane enormously. And during our trip to the USA just over 12 months ago, we saw Tim McGraw in concert at the Houston Livestock Show. (And yes, I know I haven’t blogged that properly yet… soon I promise!).
Tickets to the Houston show cost about $15 Australian and included a full rodeo. SERIOUSLY.
I have to admit, I only knew about three of his songs then. I have since amended my ways.
And this weekend (despite the fact the tickets cost me TEN TIMES our Houston show entry fee) I donned my Texas boots and saw Tim and his gorgeous wife, Faith Hill, in concert together.
Talk about a double whammy.
WOW.
WOW!!!!
I would LOVE to say I took these great photos of Tim and Faith, but the Boondall Entertainment Centre heavies were out in force with anti-camera checks (seriously, people take high quality photos with phones these days, surely it should be open slather when all we want to do is share the fun?). The pics shared here are from Faith and Tim‘s FB pages (and I think are by Scott Barbour/Getty Images), except for the first one, which I took in Houston (where they didn’t seem to care if I took photos!).
You just have to imagine Tim was wearing a white t-shirt instead of the checked shirt. I KNOW. This is one genetically AND musically blessed couple? Who have also been married for 16 years! Now THAT is cool.
My favourite songs of the evening were This Kiss and There You’ll Be (Faith) and Live Like You Were Dying and I Like it, I Love it (I Want some More Of It) from Tim.
Their encore: I Need You (a duet) was just gorgeous.
Was it worth it?
Let’s just say that as the show finished, my hands were stinging from clapping so much and my husband was slightly embarrassed by his wife who was unable to sit still through the concert. (There was some booty-shakin’ going on in our row!) But not as embarrassed as he was when we got a tweet from a friend who was in the concert crowd, who noted:
“We think (hubs) looks just like Tim. But he needs to work on his guns!”
Tee hee.
What do you think?
(About the appearance parallels, not the guns!)
So thanks to my friend Leonie who nabbed the tickets for us, and to my friend OopsieMumma who hosted us for the weekend, and who babysat our kids (and kept us up-to-date on State election results!).
I LIKED IT, I LOVED IT, I WANT SOME MORE OF IT!
🙂

Looks Fine to me! I can’t think of any famous person my hubby looks like, but we played hostel to a kid who I SWEAR looks like Jake Gyllenhaal for a little while. Might have annoyed him a bit that I told him so. 😉

You’re more than welcome xo. The kids keep asking to see yours again, Master Sporty’s been down in the dumps since you left 🙁

Oh. And it would probably date me terribly to say that I saw Charlie Pride live at the Grand Old Opery as a child.

That Jeanie has the slightest bit of a sadistic bent, doesn’t she? Next thing you know, she’ll be pointing out that I saw Charlie Pride probably a good 45 years ago.
BB? Pass the smelling salts when you’re done with ’em please.

PS That last pic taken last year on Melbourne CUp day… I DID NOT go to a concert with a flower in my hair! And Mr I DID NOT wear a hat. Just so you know…
Kelly
I can see why they made the comparison, at least in that photo of Mr. I with the facial hair.
I enjoy most any type of music, but these days my preferences lean towards Jazz. If I’m gonna listen to Country, take me back in time to the old stuff.

I grew up on the same aural diet BB, now we’re exerting our influence on our children in the same manner. Thought long and hard about making the trek to see Tim and Faith, but couldn’t fit it in. “Live like you were Dying” is one of my husband’s favourite songs. Glad you had a great weekend.
