Something completely different…

I know I have pretty much ‘beefed’ you out over the past week or so, so thought I would mix things up a little here tonight.

Dash and Violet had a heavenly couple of hours with Mr Incredible this afternoon – fishing on the river that runs by our house.

It only filled last year, so fish stocks are slowly building, but they DID land a couple today.

This one was the prize…

A catfish so big Dash needed his sister’s help to hold it up!  He was released soon after this pic was taken – Dash is not keen on death, even though he loves the thrill of the chase-and-catch!  According to reports he ‘swam off beautifully’, in contrast to the fight he put up when being caught.

Violet likes spending time with Dad, and hates missing not succeeding at anything but fish are a little slimy for her. (She’s definitely my daughter!)

And yes, Dash has injured himself. Eight stitches to his right cheek actually – thanks to a combination of ten-year-old testosterone and a high-jump bar.  He’s getting them out tomorrow, so we will see how big a scar he will get to show off.

How was your weekend?

🙂

    Hi
Sure is a big catfish, I don’t think they are worthy of the cooking exercise, a bit horrible to the taste glands. Similar I think to the Yellow Belly of the Darling River.
As you did ask BB, I had a completely “feral” free week on the trains. That is worthy of the Nobel Prize for keeping one’s sanity – ha ha!
Great looking horse in the background.
    Cheers

catfish I have heard are a bit ordinary so it was wise to throw him back. When we were house and dog sitting for a friend at Mungindi a couple of years ago, we caught a huge cod and we too put him back in, It felt wrong to kill him cos he was probably about 70 years old. Ah there was so much excitement that day!

I grew up in Florida where the salt water catfish are bottom feeders, and no one wants to eat them. Then we headed west, my first husb and I, and discovered Texans LOVED their catfish fries! Fresh water cats are very different from the ones I knew, and these folks made huge festivities out of fried catfish!
