Afternoon birthday wishes…
It has come to my attention that not only has my American friend Debby graduated from college with her OT degree this week (yay!) but it also her birthday today… I think that’s worthy of a little celebration, don’t you?
(If you don’t know Debby yet, you really need to… she’s a funny, happy, breast-cancer-surviving, incredibly talented writer and blogger. Read her blog here. Off you go. I will wait!)
I considered what I might be able to do to properly acknowledge her achievement – and came up with nothin’… so I decided to share ten minutes of my bush afternoon with her. And, naturally, with you too. Ready to enjoy some pre-dusk Granite Glen moments?
The burning-off. Hey, I didn’t say this would be romantic, did I? Note the very green, mown area we burn our rubbish on. This is so we don’t have any bushfires near the house. Not my idea of a good time!
Now the real reason I went outside with the camera…
Our young bull, Granite, who decided that licking water from a leaky tap was HIS idea of fun….
Which is kinda cute til you take into account that the REASON it is leaky is to do with bulls ‘playing’ with the tap.
Yup. Naughty little boys!
Okay, enough tap-licking… time for feed.
This time of day is always very active at Granite Glen – all animals head for one location: the yards. And they vie for the attention of the feed-giver. Mostly Mr Incredible, but also the kids and sometimes even me on occasion.
Some wait their turn (being lower in the ‘pecking order’) like Dash’s horse, Pickles.
He’s a lover, not a fighter.
He also knows a great pose.
Nice work Pickles!
And to finish off, the sunset.
Well, the glow of the sunset anyway.
Happy Birthday, Debby.
Your Aussie mates are mighty proud of your graduation. Hope a little holiday in the Aussie Bush was enough of a gift. And enough to keep those plans for a visit percolating along!

Oh, gees~! Thanks. I love Pickle’s pose. I imagined him saying, “How YOU doing?” Yes. It has been a wonderful weekend, equal measures of celebration and hard work. Lots of laughter. Yesterday, Tim and I took a walk downtown after dark, and we walked back, looking at all the houses in the dark. Despite the fact that the poor place is in dire need of a good painting, still, coming up on our own place softly illuminated by a line of solar lights around the foundation and along the driveway, we both agree we’re the luckiest people we know.
And the party is not over. Tomorrow is our anniversary, our 14th.
