Dad’s Day

It was Father’s Day here in Oz today.

And in typical bush style, that meant little change in the routine, except that both my husband and father began the day unwrapping sweet treats and a DVD to watch later.

We then hit the day running – packing lunches and horses and kids, heading to the top end of our place, mustering cattle to truck tomorrow, sorting and walking the cows about 8 km to another set of yards, and then helping a baby calf to be reunited with her Mama.  I’ll share pics of her tomorrow (she’s adorable but today is all about DADs!).

I got sunburnt, am so exhausted my eyeballs burn, and am also sporting a sore patootie.  Man I am out of practice in the saddle department!

Anyways, thought I’d share a pic of my Dad (Pagi)…

A far better gift than licorice (although he enjoyed that too!).

And my husband.

Who still makes my heart melt, especially when he’s with this pair of trouble-makers/off-siders.

I wrote a note on FB sharing the love with Father’s of all walks of life – how special a job is fatherhood? I want to also extend my arms to those who no longer have the father they love in their lives. A bittersweet day for so many.  I hope you have wonderful memories to warm your hearts and balance out that sadness. Somehow it makes me treasure the simple joys we have a little bit more.

So what did you do on Father’s Day? Or at least on the Sunday just gone?
🙂

No Father’s Day here, but the Labor Day weekend is upon us. The unofficial end of summer and the official beginning of college football. I got sunburned yesterday at the game, where we sat right up there next to the sun. Gorgeous photos as usual!

Yes, it’s all about Labor Day and football here, but I’m quietly sitting out the heat in my A/C apt with Emma, the Calico Queen. Counting the weeks until I’ll move to Savannah to be huggingly close to my grandson!

Thank you for your tribute to the fathers now gone – brought tears to my eyes but I was glad for the moment to think about Dad. He died in 2000 at 87, after a stroke…he had always said he wanted to see the calendar turn to 2000 and he did!

My father passed away many years ago but the good memories are still very dear to me, I was a Daddys girl until the very end. When you truck cattle do you all use trailers like the states or big trucks, if you have a minute to take a pic. post a few for us. The cattle movers I saw in Germany were very different then here in the states. Happy Fathers Day to the men in your life.
