The Under Dog
Once upon a time there was this little black kelpie…
He was part of a tribe, one of nine in the whelping…
Things weren’t always easy for this tough little runt…
And yet, he had ‘something’, he appealed from the front. Like his brothers and sisters, well-handled by all…
‘Under’ learned to stand steady, hold his ground,
roll with each fall. His bulk was so small, yet his aura so great…
The hardest of hearts all soon called him ‘mate’.
He never backed down and he never gave up…
This curious, cuddly, character-filled pup.
And yet quite the heart-throb…
And while everyone loved him,
Here with his own clan
It came time to farewell him
And to share with Merry-Anne! While he did call out
for his siblings behind
In an instant, I knew
We had made a great find… Plans were afoot
to spoil and to cuddle
And Alan’s big hands… Made the perfect spot to snuggle…

My apologies to proper poets out there – but we really HAD to do a tribute to our ‘Dexter the Under Dog’.
If you follow me on Facebook, you will see Merry-Anne is kindly sharing some photos there of our favourite little runt in action. And yes, he is being THOROUGHLY spoiled (first meal at the pub, second meal, first crack at the mince in his new home!)
🙂

Sure is a little fellow, “runt” never sounds like a nice word, but we all use it.
Looks like he has found a good home, hopefully he will make a fine working dog.
Certainly looks alert – the photos on the steps!
Hope you are getting some of the rain associated with the cyclones off the northern coastline???
BNE is getting the “on and off” stuff, wish it would do all the “on” part and have a rest for some “off” and then when needed more of the “on”. Bloody weather never co-operates, does it?

No rain yet Colin… I have washing on the line and windows down on the ute and all! Everything crossed for those out west too.

Well if that doesn’t work, you’ll have to resort to frenzied rain dancing, no one at least will witness this display except your startled family, dogs, horses etc.
Yep, sure needed out west.

BB, nice pups – all of them. I was thinking about you down there in the heat and dry. I decided to take a box outside, close it up, tape it real tight and send it to you so that you could open it up and get a puff of -16F air to cool your brow. Well, I couldn’t find the right size box then other things came along that must be done. So… I didn’t get it done but be warned I was thinking about it.
Have a fun day!

How sweet a pupper he is too. So happy he found a true forever home with folks who will love him as much as he can absorb.

Well he is adorable! I have been without a dog since last April and every time I see something like this I become weak and think I need to become a dog person again!
