Do the flowers know something?
It’s pretty dry here at the moment… our inch-and-a-bit rainfall about a month ago – which did start a green shoot happening in the grass – has evaporated. Storms are skirting our area, with a shower here and there. But nothing substantial to provide hope that this drought will end soon.
Our forecasts don’t hold much hope at all…
That 28-day prediction is NOT inspiring… actually it’s downright depressing.
And yet, that last lot of rain (as small as it was) seemed to set the ‘flowering trigger’ OFF in many plants around the ridges.
Verbena (considered a weed, albeit an extremely pretty one) growing up through a cattle grid on a paddock road…
A yellow flower on a galvanised burr…
And the cactus are in flower too… it always amazes me that such an ugly plant can have such delicate flowers.
The creek – which saw such devastation in floods a few years ago – is home to the most incredible bottle trees blooms at the moment.
Every tree is bent downstream from the force of the water back then (all would have been completely submerged) yet they look incredibly healthy now.
And the bees? They are BUZZZZ-eeeee.
(Sorry. Bee joke.)
It does the soul good to see insect life (especially bees) so active and prolific.
Native bees and honey bees are everywhere along this creek – such a hive of activity.
(Yes, I know, that was really bad!)
It makes me wonder… do the flowers and the bees know something we don’t?
Maybe there is a little hope?
Maybe Mother Nature is telling us to hang in there?
Maybe something beautiful (and wet) might happen soon?
In hope, and the joy of flowers
🙂

I am a big believer in the ants – they are very rarely wrong 🙂

Yep – Ants are a good indication of pending rain – none to be seen here in Brisbane.
Well at least I now know that the bee population of Australia has not all migrated.
With the present constant increases in the price of honey, I thought the bees must have done “a runner”.
Like you, Amanda, I have joined the hospital visits – a “suspected” heart attack – obviously minor, but chances are not being taken. I don’t think there can be anything on earth so dismal as medical waiting rooms!!!
Cheers and lets hope we all soon see plenty of ants.

Pretty little flower with thorns of steel. I hope that you get more rain soon.

Hoping for gentle, washing rain for your part of the world. Is the weather really wilder and weirder lately or are we just more aware of it??? LOVE your photos.
